Steele Asks RNC Staff to ResignBy Matt LewisFeb 6th 2009 9:17AMFiled Under:eRepublicans
Fox News is reporting that
Michael Steele has requested the resignations of the ENTIRE RNC STAFF (about 100 people). He wants to rebuild from scratch.
The story was based on a blog post
written last night by Politico's Ben Smith.
It is still unclear whether or not staffers will be allowed to re-interview for their positions (my guess) -- or if this is, indeed, a real purge.
If there was ever a doubt his election represented a revolutionary shift in direction, this move would certainly put an end to that debate.
The reformers won, and -- unlike Obama who seems to have used "change" as merely an slogan -- Steele (so far) appears to be "governing" (inasmuch as an RNC chairman can "govern") -- as a true change-agent.
By the same token, one hopes Steele will not throw the baby out with the bath water. Clearly there are some good people working at the RNC -- and losing institutional knowledge is painful. My guess is some staffers may retain their positions.
Of particular interest to bloggers will be the fate of the RNC's tech-guru Cyrus Krohn. Several conservative blogs, including
RedState, have urged Steele to retain him.
Update:
The Hill has more.
