Octuplets could be costly for taxpayers

As a single parent with no income, Nadya Suleman could receive thousands of dollars a month in government assistance. And the Medi-Cal bill for her newborns is mounting.

(NBC NEWS)

Nadya Suleman has 14 children, including newborn octuplets. She has no job, no income and owes $50,000 in student loans.

Still, the 33-year-old Whittier woman said she's confident that she can afford to raise her huge family, insisting she can do it without welfare. In an interview Tuesday with NBC, she said she could use student loans to make ends meet until she finishes graduate school and gets a job.

But Suleman faces what are likely to be millions of dollars in medical bills alone, and it's increasingly likely that taxpayers will foot many of those bills.

Her family is eligible for large sums of public assistance money. Even before she gave birth to the octuplets Jan. 26, Suleman was receiving $490 in monthly food stamps, and three of her children were receiving federal supplemental security income because they are disabled.

And how lucky California taxpayers are because this baby machine lady and her boyfriend-sperm donor, David Solomon, conceived and bore their 14 offspring in California. Whee!

As far as I'm concerned the Dr. should be responsible for their support. I wonder if Californians can use this case to file a class action suit against Suleman and seek to have his license revoked.

If the doc were responsible for these kids welfare, he might think twice from this sick experimentation. Both of them are whack jobs.

Wrong. It's the fault of our litigious society as well as our female gender minority friendly legal system.

Consider what would have happened to the physician in question if he refused to do what Ms. Suleman asked. Not too long ago a fertility clinic in California had its ass sued for refusing to impregnate a lesbian mother because of its sexist homophobic medical judgment call.

www.huffingtonpost.com/20...octuplets-m_n_162756.html

Some cut and paste:

...Angela Suleman said her daughter always had trouble conceiving and underwent in vitro fertilization treatments because her fallopian tubes are "plugged up."

There were frozen embryos left over after her previous pregnancies and her daughter didn't want them destroyed, so she decided to have more children.

Her mother and doctors have said the woman was told she had the option to abort some of the embryos and, later, the fetuses. She refused.

...Angela Suleman told reporters Friday that doctors implanted far fewer than eight embryos, but they multiplied. Experts said this could be possible since Nadya Suleman's system has likely been hyperstimulated for years with fertilization treatments and drugs.

IMO, he should've taken it to court before he implanted the eggs. I still think there is a part missing to the story here.

Where's this dumb (deleted) coming up with the massive amounts of Dough Ray Me for fertilization services ?

Once she proves to the Doc that she can pay she's off to the races..

I read somewhere or there that she was being paid to guinea up. Just to 'see' if this would work. Nothing mentioned about who would support the babies if or after they were born. I suspect it was already known that the taxpayers would be forced to pick up the tab.

Saw him on the tube and he doesn't look like he's in the business of charity cases.

Soo.... I ask you is this askew to you too?

Well, if Mr. Soloman funded this mess to begin with then Mr. Soloman of Israel should be forced to pony up for the Forced Pregnancy Gone Wild. ;-)

Exactly.

My question is, what else is he up to?
