TOLEDO, Ohio — Ohio police say a man held a woman captive in handcuffs and an adult diaper for three days while he read Bible passages to her. Troy Brisport, of Toledo, is charged with kidnapping and felonious assault. Bail was set today at $400,000. Police say he picked up the woman Wednesday night in Detroit and drove her to his home, about 90 kilometres away. She told police when she fell asleep, Brisport handcuffed her wrists and ankles, gagged her, undressed her and put her in an adult diaper. Court documents state Brisport tried several times to suffocate the woman using a pillow and blanket. She told police she escaped Saturday after he fell asleep. Police say it appears there was no sexual assault.

Troy Brisport, 34, also read the Bible to Shykea Boykin, the Detroit woman who told investigators Brisport handcuffed her by the wrists and ankles in his West Toledo apartment. He also took off her clothes and dressed her in an adult diaper, and gave her little to eat and drink, she told investigators. Three days later, Boykin sneaked out of the apartment, still handcuffed by the wrists, in a diaper and a t-shirt, banging on neighboring apartment doors and finally on doors outside, police said. Police said they’re somewhat baffled. “It’s kind of a mixed bag,” said Capt. Ray Carroll. “He takes her to his house, holds her captive, handcuffs her. We don’t know what the diapers are about. And then he’s reading the Bible to her. I don’t know. Maybe it was a saving-her kind of thing,” he said. A bespectacled Brisport, who listed his address until late last year as Mount Vernon, N.Y., stood briefly before a Toledo Municipal Court judge, but the hearing was postponed until Wednesday. He is charged with felonious assault and kidnapping, and his bond was set at $400,000. The case began late Wednesday, lead investigator Larry Anderson said. Boykin told Toledo Police she was homeless when Brisport met her on a Detroit street just before midnight Wednesday. “He told her she could crash at his place,” Carroll said. When she climbed into his car, she fell asleep and woke only after arriving at Brisport's apartment in Toledo just south of the Michigan border. He was putting a gag in her mouth. Over the next three days, he also tried to choke her, authorities said. Both Boykin and Brisport, who has talked to investigators, denied they had any sexual contact.
