From NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube

The White House is expected to announce the deployment of more than 10,000 additional U.S. forces to Afghanistan "within the hour," according to Pentagon officials. The Pentagon will follow with details on numbers and identification of troops to be deployed.

The troop deployment to Afghanistan will be announced as a "remissioning," meaning many, if not most, of the forces were already scheduled to deploy to Iraq but will now be diverted to Afghanistan.

That will reportedly include two Marine combat battalions and one Army combat brigade. According to one Pentagon official, because this "remissioning" will, in fact, redirect troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, it will be politically characterized as a "drawdown" of U.S. military forces in Iraq, permitting the White House to claim in this one announcement that President Obama is making good on two campaign promises -- withdrawing forces from Iraq and sending additional forces to Afghanistan.

If he hasn't already, Defense Secretary Gates is expected to sign the deployment order today to send the more than 10,000 U.S. Marines and soldiers to Afghanistan in the spring.

Its a done deal.

Ten thousand more Americans be thrown into the quagmire.

Reminds me of Johnson in Vietnam. Ten thousand today, another ten next month and pretty soon the body bags arrive.

Stupid white guilters can wear Obongo around their neck for the next four years.

And after 3.5 years of profits for the military defense industry, negotiations with the Taliban will take place and we'll start the military withdrawal just before the 2012 Presidential elections.

Read this and weep - Afghanistan represents a Black Hole of Failure for any nation that attempts to conquer/occupy it:

www.theglobeandmail.com/s...NStory/International/home

Some cut and paste...

... It if were up to me, I'd show the whole shooting match on every television network in Canada. Young Canadians are fighting the Taliban in Kandahar province and much precious Canadian blood already has been spilled there. The insurgency is and always has been effectively directed across the border from Pakistan. A good many political leaders in the West (including some in Canada) and some of the sharpest minds believe that negotiations with the Taliban are inevitable. These are smarter people than me and I grant that they may be correct.

"In addition to the 10,000 troops, 6,000 were recently deployed, meeting half the request of U.S. commanders who have been contemplating sending up to 30,000 more soldiers to bolster the 33,000 already there".

WHY ARE WE THERE?

Broadly speaking we are there to promote the New World Order. Black Obama appears to be going about it more intelligently than Genghis W. Bush, but chances are America will end up like Germany did in 1945 with our cities laying in smoking ruins. If Black Obama fails to toe the Zionist line he could met the same fate of JFK, Joe Biden is standing by to take the place of LBJ

This in many ways will be far worse than Iraq.

You could be right. In Iraq there was a long standing civilization, a society, a learned people, infrastructure, a legal system albeit highjacked by Saddam and the Baath Party. Iraq was a cohesive nation before we arrived and tuirned it upside down. Gradually Iraq will right itself once we leave. Iraq has a history.

In Afghanistan there is no there there. Afghanistan is compromised of a number of squabbling Muslim tribes of very very primitive people who take pride in being primitive and unruled and unconquered and untouched by anything more modern than 14th century civilization. The Afghans unite against a common enemy. If you're not an Afghan, you are the enemy. Seriously, this is no tall tale - Afghans like kicking around human skulls for sport - kind of an Afghanistan version of soccer. It's mountainous and cold and unwelcoming to foreign invaders. That's why Afghans like living in Afghanistan.

Canada with the largest contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan is bailing in 2011. No more extensions on the exit date. The Afghanistan adventure is exceedingly unpopular with our best ally - the ally that walks the talk unlike the financial parasite who shall remain unmentioned. What other ally is going to send troops to that hell hole once the Canadians leave? You think the Frenchies or the Krauts are going to send troops to aid The Professor? Doubters. They are not soooooo stoooopid as Obama is.

Americans are so screwed if Obama takes on Afghanistan.

You said it, cyni. Barry Lyndon Baines Obummer, the War Professor, and what a bummer Afghanistan will be.

what a bummer Afghanistan will be.

I can see it now, President for Life, Obummer astride his white steed leading the victorious troops down Fifth Ave. After his last battle subjugating the last vile vestiges of Americans.

If 158,000 troops can't subdue Iraq, how can 58,000 do the job in Afghanistan? They can't. Afghanistan's population is larger than that of Iraq. Its area is 50 percent bigger, with infinitely rougher terrain. Even with today's SURGE, it's spit in a bucket. The Os are a disgusting bunch, but now that they agree with Bush/McCain and Mother Israel, I find them to be common blood soaked war pigs.

My xtal balls tell me it's all over.

I'm getting my suit cleaned so's to be ready to go out and run up Old Glory and sing the Star Spangled Banger one more time before they pull down the curtain.

I really hurt because I remember when Americans were truly free.

Other than being forced to go to school, we were free.

Read James Michener's novel about Afghanistan, "Caravans." The terrain and weather there is so bad the only thing the Chinese have to do to us is point and laugh.

Good observations about James Michener's book, "Caravans." For a turtle, you are quite well read. ;)

Thanks for the compliment.

But I must tell you that words are my weapons and hockey is my game. Still okay with me?

You forgot how Super-Duper Smart Turtle is.

For example, last night I slept on top of von Mises' "Human Action" and when I woke up this morning I am now an expert on Austrian economics.

No place is better than Turtle Island.

Don't forget Russia to the North.

I think this will be the end of the 52,000 or so troops in Afghanistan, they will be decimated, just another pin prick to the empire, a slow death by 1000 cuts.
