Thanks to the eagle-eyed forum members over at BevNET, we have news of sugar-sweetened versions of some PepsiCo products coming soon. Per Beverage Industry magazine, the names will be Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback: In the middle of April, PBV [Pepsi Bottling Ventures] also will begin distributing Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, which features those brands formulated with sugar. This is a big deal since mainstream soft drinks in the United States are sweetened with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). Typically, the only way to get soda from the "big guys" with real sugar is to import it (i.e., Mexican Coke) or wait till Passover (Kosher Coke, Kosher Pepsi). Pepsi has been experimenting elsewhere with sugar-sweetened drinks. We reported last February about two such entries… Pepsi Raw in the UK and Mexico's Pepsi Retro. It's nice to see some of this finally coming to the States. A search of the United States Patent and Trademark Office's Trademark Electronic Search System shows the following logos tied to these brands…

Day late, dollar short: "What makes Dublin Dr Pepper so different? Dublin Dr Pepper is still made using the original sweetener, pure cane sugar. In the 1970s the price of sugar rose and soft drink companies started panicking because it was getting too expensive to produce their drinks using sugar. Virtually everyone switched to high fructose corn syrup because it was much less expensive. The decision was made at that time to keep using the pure cane sugar, regardless of the extra expense. The Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling Company is the only Dr Pepper bottler that has always used pure cane sugar to sweeten the drink."

Thanks for the ping. Yes, I have actually had Coke sweetened with real sugar and it is a far, far different drink than they make with that HFCS $#it.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end. My favorite drink and within easy driving distance :)) They sell it in the city at some places now, too. But far better to go there and get served with a handmade mix (tell them how much syrup you'd like) at the fountain by pretty girls :))
