Many of his supporters pointed to them as evidence of possible victory for the nomination. What it truly represented was the kind of grassroots activist support Ron Paul had. The results of the 2009 CPAC Straw Poll demonstrate the Paul activists are still around and they arent going anywhere. As Ron Paul says, Freedom is popular. Ron Paul didnt win the straw poll. That distinction was left for Mitt Romney whos ballot stuffing tactics during last years Ames Iowa Straw Poll were criticized by many. The final results according to Politico were: Romney took 20 percent of the vote, followed by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal with 14 percent, Texas Rep. Ron Paul with 13 percent, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with 13 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 10 percent and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 7 percent. So Jindal the annointed and Romney the empty shell came in the top two spots. Ron Paul and Sarah Palin tied for third, only 1% behind Jindal. That is pretty impressive for a conference made up mostly of neo-conservative ignorant idiots touting preemptive war like Allahpundit and his false conservative minions over at Hot Air. However there are two possible reasons why Ron Paul performed so well. First, his Campaign for Liberty had a large presence as well as the youthful exuberant Young Americans for Liberty. Their presence certainly helped at the straw poll ballot box. Ron Pauls recent presence in the media talking economic sense also helped and probably won over some former neo-conservatives. When the results of a poll have Ron Paul in a tie with the most recent GOP Vice Presidential candidate it means that some minds are being changed. Its going to take time. Theres still a long way to go and we liberty lovers are not going away. A Ron Paul supporter has the last word in the article quoted above from Politico: Jenna Robinson, a graduate student in North Carolina, who works at the Raleigh-based John William Pope Center for Higher Education, said she voted for Ron Paul. The libertarian-leaning lawmaker has been proven right about the nations precarious financial situation, she said. I feel like hes the candidate most likely to stick to his convictions on individual liberty. Amen Jenna. Amen.
