That has been obvious for some time, and an article in The Economist explains what has gone wrong. It's a subtle and closely argued piece, but I'm in the mood for crude generalisations. Here goes. Which is the bigger threat - Islamic terrorism or Muslim ghettos? Now, obviously we can't definitively answer that question: if a group of Islamist "radicals" successfully explode a dirty bomb in (say) Manchester city centre, then obviously we will look back and see the fight for social cohesion as a bit of a sideshow. We'll wish we had put more resources into anti-terrorism initiatives. But, as the Economist article makes clear, the old argument that you fight terrorism by empowering British Muslim "moderates" is looking pretty shaky these days. Predicting who is going to become an Islamic terrorist is as haphazard an enterprise as anything in social science: it's as unreliable as the "psychological profiling" of serial killers, now increasingly recognised as a pseudoscience. And, anyway, who are the Islamic moderates? The Government used to suck up to the Muslim Council of Britain, "in which movements close to the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamists of Pakistan were strongly represented", as the Economist points out. Then Labour abandoned that strategy, much to the annoyance of the puffed-up "community leaders" of the MCB. Money went instead to an initiative called "Prevent" that will empower moderates - to the tune of £80 million by 2011. Eighty million quid - for what? It turns out that many Muslims regard anyone associated with Prevent as a government stooge. So it's not clear (to put it politely) whether this initiative will prevent anything, beyond a few "moderate" organisations moaning about lack of funding (and then only until 2011). Sorry to sound cynical, but I gather that there's been a lot of bickering around the cabinet table about this issue. Hardly surprising: the Government is heavily influenced by (a) Koran Armstrong-style multiculturalists perpetually agitated about Islamophobia, (b) Labour MPs who will lose their seats if "community leaders" take against them, (c) control freaks who play up the terrorist threat in order to have a good snoop at us all and (d) genuine democrats who are appalled by the relentless, state-sponsored herding of young British citizens into religious ghettos. Funnily enough, I think Ms Blears comes into this category - in which case she's got her work cut out for her. As Civitas reported recently, Ofsted's inspection of Britain's Muslim schools is a joke. Creepily fundamentalist academies, which ban music, chess and Shakespeare, are given good marks by inspectors - some of whom are fervent Muslims themselves. Girls end up in finishing schools ie, schools that finish any ambitions they might have had to train as businesswomen, lawyers, doctors etc. You want to know what's really going on? Visit the website of the Centre for Social Cohesion, whose director Douglas Murray routinely faces death threats simply for pointing out that Islamic fascists are bullying ordinary Muslims in British universities, rather as Muslim lobby groups in the police are encouraged to turn ordinary officers from Pakistani families into Islamic hardliners. The bottom line is really quite simple. There are 2.4 million Muslims in Britain today, according to the Labour Force Survey; in 2001 there were only 1.6 million, according to the census. This huge growth in the size of the Muslim community can't be accommodated easily by the state - but, on the other hand, it may be just what Saudi-funded zealots need in order to construct well-appointed, richly endowed ghettos in the UK. That's the threat, in my opinion: an insidious, multi-dimensional threat that will do as much to ruin the lives of people from ethnic minorities as it will those of white Britons. And do you think economic recession is going to slow down this process? Oh, please.

Israel's Sacred Terrorism: Most Israelis observe a conspiracy of silence by which certain subjects widely discussed in the Hebrew press are seldom aired in English-language media. One Israeli who dared to break that code of silence, however, is the late Livia Rokach, daughter of Israel Rokach, Minister of the Interior in the government of Moshe Sharett. She translated the diaries and she was eventually found dead in her hotel room in Rome. This document is riveting, a must read. MORE: ---------->>>>>> http://ziomania.com/livia/livia.htm
