Things are literally going swimmingly here in Melaque in the heart of Costallagre Mexico.

Sue and I have decided this place is a keeper.

Our pleasant hotel room is 250 pesos a night ($17 USD) and has a great terrace with umbarellas and tables and a stove and sink if you want to cook some shrimp.

Weekly the price goes to $14 USD a night, if you get it for a month I guess its free ).

These pixs are from google, I did not bring the cable to connect my camera to a computer.

My tan is coming right along, the food is fabulous, shrimp platter is about $5.5 and the beer company, Sol, is having a promotional especial for $0.66 a bottle in the restaurants!!! Or for a brew on our terrace, $0.44 for a 16 oz can of Sol. Our room is great with two comfortable beds, frige and a flush toilet so it is far more advanced then the Ozarks! The city square: HERE IS OUR HOTEL: Have another few days here than off to Puerto Vallerta for a flight back to the US on Tuesday - ending our three week vacation. Next time we are driving, and staying a month. (6 images)

For the benefit of those not familiar with the dynamics of modern bow hunting, that's a compound bow. The pulleys or cams allow a 60 lb bow to be held at full draw with as little as 15 lbs of draw weight. But, you still have to draw the full weight to the let off point where the cam(s) allow(s) the weight to let off. And that means you need strength and muscle tone that can only come from practice.

The secret to excellent accuracy (as shown by Mr. Anthony Coppola at an estimated range of 37 yards) is the result of practice, and it's not unusual to develop tendinitis in the process of becoming proficient with a bow. Also notice that Anthony is muscular and probably pumps iron. Upper body strength and hand-eye coordination must be honed with pre season practice each year to make these types of quality shots with a bow.

Also, he's using his index finger to trip a mechanical release instead of the Robin Hood two finger bowstring draw. These release triggers contribute greatly to shot-to-shot accuracy, and with the quality sights, bows and equipment in the right hands amazing accuracy can be the rule instead of the exception.

"Advantages of shooting a compound bow

* You can shoot much farther with a compound bow since there is more energy stored in the bow at full draw. You can shoot more weight and that means more speed, and the arrow will travel flatter and farther.

* Shooting a compound bow provides better accuracy since the string is pulled back to the same point every time, and let off allows you to aim longer at full draw. There is minimal error unlike a traditional bow.

* The use of a release aid makes shooting a bow much more consistent than using fingers. There is less contact on the string and therefore less room for error. The bow string can be released either by a trigger or back tension.__wiki

A word of caution for those who may wish to take up bowhunting.

Modern broadheads are so sharp that if in the process of field dressing a deer you accidentally find one inside the animal that was healed over it could injure one so badly that a helicopter airlift may be required to save the life!

Extreme caution is also necessary in mounting, transporting and climbing with broadheads, as well as when shooting them. (Arrows can flip around if hastily nocked and injure the shooter, and the last thing you want is to try and safely and quickly de-tree while rapidly desanguinating, especially in a climbing deer stand!)

Here are lighted nocks to help those who wish to maximize their skills and accuracy.

Unlike the gun seasons when drunks, land pirates and escaped war criminals come out with rusty 12 ga smokepoles or grandpappy's ol' 03A3 with FMJ military ammo, and the only practice they get is when they hastily miss deer often with little regard for the locations of others in the woods, you meet a better class of hunter and gentlemen (and gentlewimmen) among bow hunters.

It requires a dedication and the honing of skills (like scouting, scent control and the ability to remain still) that too many gun hunters never bother with, because firearms often allow multiple (often poorly placed) shots at greater ranges, and even the dumbest damn sister loving hillbilly can kill deer with a long gun, before the moonshine blinds him and he falls out of the tree and calls it a day.
