I guess we could have spent a lot more, but we are pretty frugal.

It was hard not to notice, tho, that a week after our arriving, the Peso fell from 15.2 to about 14.3 or so.

As we were at a remote beach for that week we had no idea of it - and little concern.

The real point of this post is, that however disasterous the dollar has been, the Mexican currency has been, superizingly, a little more disasterious.

In fact (if you believe the newspapers), the Mexican Gov. is buying (liquidating, in order to make more scarce MX Pesos and hence valuable, Three Hundred Million Pesos a day, to bolster the MP V. the USD.

That's about twentyfive million USD, but every day it may add up. They have doing it for a while.

Whatever the currency rates I will proclaim Mexico to be a GREAT PLACE FOR THE INDEPENDENT TRAVELLER TO VISIT.

Yes there are the usual scams and BS in the urban areas, but for the vast bulk of our trip we were deeply impressed with the honesty and gracefulness of our neighbors.

As you may have suspected the further out from the urban areas there was less chickenary, but most in the city were forthright.

Yes - we spent enough time to have to good and the bad, we have bad days in the US as well, No?

The other Real Important Issue we whitnessed was this;

Confabulations and assorted idioticiacys of the United States and Canadians were dealt with (Uusally) with a MUCH greater grace that I could have managed if I were running the bus,

I really would have been reaching for the cattle prod, and hoping it was fully charged, so my hat is off to the Bus drivers in Puerto Vallarta.

Glad that you had a great experience in the MX - that's the way that we feel about our southern neighbors.

From our honeymoon on the west coast, to Mexico D.F., to ports of call on the Gulf - it was all good.
