(03-19) 15:37 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

A federal judge on Thursday blocked a federal rule allowing people to carry concealed, loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly overturns a rule issued in the waning days of the Bush administration.

The rule, which took effect Jan. 11, and allowed visitors to carry a loaded gun into a park or wildlife refuge as long as the person had a permit for a concealed weapon and the state where the park or refuge was located allowed concealed firearms. Previously, guns in parks had been severely restricted.

The Obama administration had said it was reviewing the Bush rule but had defended it in court.

A spokeswoman for Interior Secretary Ken Salazar declined to comment Thursday, citing the ongoing court case.

The Bush administration issued the gun rule in December in response to letters from half the Senate asking officials to lift the restrictions on guns in parks, which were adopted by the Reagan administration in the early 1980s.

The rule went further than a draft proposal issued a year ago and would have allowed concealed weapons even in parks located in states that prohibit the carrying of guns in state parks. Some states allow concealed weapons but also ban guns from parks.

Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, one of two groups that sued to block the rule, called the judge's ruling a victory for the people.

"We're happy that this headlong rush to push more guns into more places has been slowed," he said.

Bryan Faehner, associate director of the National Parks Conservation Association, which also brought suit, said he was extremely pleased.

"We're especially glad to hear that the court is agreeing with the park rangers and the public who are concerned that there will be negative impacts from the (now-overturned) regulation and increased likelihood for opportunistic poaching of wildlife and increased risk of violence to the public."

The National Rifle Association had pushed for the Bush rule change, saying law-abiding citizens had the right to protect themselves and their families while enjoying America's national parks and wildlife refuges. The previous regulations were inconsistent and unclear, the NRA said.

A group representing park rangers, retirees and conservation organizations protested the Bush rule change, complaining that it could lead to confusion and increased danger for visitors, rangers and other law enforcement agencies.

Do these idiots realize that the prohibition will only disarm the LAW ABIDING citizens who might have PROTECTED their lives, whereas CRIMINALS don't care if there's a law prohibiting the possession of weapons, since they are CRIMINALS and plan on violating MUCH more important laws anyways, such as those against rape and murder.

Of course these state worshiping assholes couldn't care less about the regular killing of park visitors by psychos, sows with cubs or mountain lions.

Two women who were singled out because they were lovers were bound and had their throats slit by a man who was sure of two things-his selected victims were gay and they were as a matter of law stripped of the only practical and effective means for women to defend themselves against him and his lawfully carried knife in the park.

And, the correlation between menstruation and bear attacks cannot be ignored, but, women should just stay in the cities and leave the rugged outdoors to those of us who don't produce pheromones that trigger animal attacks.

After all, if G_d intended women to be campers, hikers, rangers, biologists, etc., She would have made women smell like pepper spray.

As far as I'm concerned any govt employees who lobby or agitate to disarm law abiding citizens so "they feel safer" with no regard for public safety and the right to defend our families are committing treason.

And, those same assholes seldom if ever sleep in bags, but rather they stay in cabins or vehicles when performing their park duties, and they don't hesitate to arm themselves if they get nervous.

I won't visit a national park. And, those anti gunners are my enemy and I won't mince words with them.

And, when those daisy sniffing tree huggers (who believe themselves to be "one with nature") start to get eaten in numbers they can no longer ignore, or murdered by sociopaths who served only token sentences for previous homicides, what do they do? Why, they demand that the government solve the problem for them!

Thanks Walt Disney. You've raised generations who foolishly believe that wild animals crave human affection and can "sense" human benevolence and "gentle souls". Unfortunately, these "anthropomorphidites" don't realize that to opportunistic predators, "gentle" soul" is synonymous with "lunch".

I saw a film recently where a boy approached a deer shot by hunters and rubbed the wounded animal as it lay dying, and now some misguided kid may try that and be killed when hoofed in the throat or head.

Wounded deer are approached only from the back side and then with caution, using a stick to test the eye for signs of life. One should never approach in reach of those claw hammer hooves, and movie producers should be held accountable for such patently irresponsible crap passing as warm and fuzzy kindness to animals.

Logically and legally impossible. There is no "rule" to be blocked. There used to be a rule, which used to prohibit firearms in National Parks (with certain exceptions.) But that rule no longer exists. It was rescinded by the Bush administration.

No court of any jurisdiction has the authority to order the Executive to have any particular rule. A court may order than an existing rule not be enforced, but that is all. If the court would like to suspend enforcement of the existing rule in some way, that it can do. But the result would simply be to remove regulartion of firearms in National parks. The court has no other authority.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C. S. Lewis

I still remember the idiot filming in the Alaskan Outback refused to carry a weapon because he was one with nature. He's now one with Bear - or at least in one.

To them, anyone who carries a gun is a criminal potentially non-compliant slave that could very well understand the primary reason the Founding Fathers gave us the 2nd Amendment and act accordingly.

His ol' lady got bear et too.

He was supposed to be a naturalist/biologist bear 'expert', and he assumed (incorrectly it turned out) that Mr. Bear and Family accepted him, no doubt because they sensed his 'respect" for them and his unique ability to telegraph his "noble spirit" to wild creatures.

What he failed to grasp is, unlike the creature in Beauty And The Beast bears don't go through life hoping to find kind hearted humans with no fear of ol' Mr. Eatiblus Anythingiblus.

In fact, I dare say that it was an insult to eat, sleep and brush his teeth next to the Alpha bruin without respecting the fact that the animal was hardwired to kill him. And, trying to convince the critters that he "ain't like those other people" was the worst thing he could do because animals instinctively kill oddballs because they're often sick or have genetic deficits. That's part of the divine plan, you might say.

In principle I have no quarrel with those who wish to feed themselves to bears, but in practice once the animals have tasted "humie been" they must be destroyed.

So, the inescapable conclusion is that the couple should have let bears be bears and not tried to cozy up to them. (and the jury is still out on those people who spend years trying to earn acceptance and join mountain gorilla families-I'm waiting for a silverback to without provocation or warning, play soccer with one of their skulls)

It's horrible that these people had to learn the error of their ways while being killed because (unlike people who require multiple and extensive reconstructive surgeries after lighting firecrackers in their mouths) the lesson was wasted on the bear folks, and you and I didn't learn a damn thing that we didn't already know.

Yeah well we got a constitution that's used as toilet paper. So what. The bastards can and do whatever they please. The founders thought we'd use the second amendment to solve our problems and cast off the tyrants. They were wrong.

Lights out.

No he is no longer in one. But, he did prove his father wrong.

Dad told him he'd never amount to s#&t.
