We conservatives are being cautioned repeatedly these days not to become too elated over the demise of mainstream newspapers. "Cork the champagne, sweep up the confetti, and put away the party hats," advised MSM journalist Rick Henderson recently in National Review Online. Newspapers are public watchdogs, he wrote, and no one else is ready to assume that mission. There‘s some truth to that, and, characteristically, some bias.

As watchdogs, newspapers aren't the Dobermans they once were. Liberalism increasingly dictates what they will and won't bark at, while shrinking staffs provide an ever-diminishing check on communities and governments. There's no reason to believe others won't step up in time and perform the job equally well or better once these monopolistic dinosaurs relinquish their hold on the local marketplace.

Nationally, newspapers have much to answer for. They didn't so much as growl before the two major calamities of the past 50 years: 9/11 (and the rise of radical Islam) and the economic crash that now engulfs us. Their first response to 9/11 was to blame America, absolve Islam and rush out to find examples of American racism toward Muslims (an ongoing project).

A forewarning on the economic crisis would have required, among other things, a critical examination of the sub-prime mess. That involves minorities, and that's restricted territory. On the other hand, agenda-driven stories about the racist practice of bankers, realtors and mortgage brokers were invariably front-page news and helped lay the foundation for this disaster.

And it didn't require the Obama candidacy to tell us that newspapers are virtually the house organs of the Democratic Party (which is why an industry bailout may soon be in the offing).

Yet MSM journalists continue to see no bias, hear no bias and speak no bias. Despite the extensive damage this problem has done to the industry and the profession, journalists refuse even to address the issue, let alone talk about remedies.

Even its conservative writers, such as columnist Debra Saunders of the San Francisco Chronicle, now on the Hearst Corporation endangered species list, find bias only on the public's part, split equally between right-wingers who "believe" there‘s liberal bias and the left-wingers "who think newspapers are not liberal enough."

"Newspapers are the public's referees as to which information is credible," Saunders wrote recently, apparently with a straight face. "You can go online and read no end of fiction and smear about public figures. But when you read content in a newspaper, you consistently can rely on it."

Unfortunately, she continues, a "growing number of people have decided that it is more important for their news to be pure than it is for the public to be informed."

What she refuses to see is that the public isn't being informed when the news is biased; it's being misinformed. That is why conservatives don't shed tears at newspaper funerals.

Not long ago journalists were champions of free speech. Now they routinely manipulate, ignore or suppress information. They've become the gatekeepers of multiculturalism and political correctness. The old saw that you can't believe everything you read in the newspaper has never been truer.

I have a degree in Journalism and was a newspaper reporter and editor.

I predicted that Muslims would attack the U.S. a few months before 9-11 (although I had no idea what kind of attack it would be) and I predicted the housing collapse in June of '04.

I worked on three newspaper and was fired from all three after basically telling all my bosses they were not only imcompetents, but stupid. What does that say about newspapers?

The good ones leave or get fired, and the clueless remain.

No place is better than Turtle Island.

And you were wrong and simply bought into the ongoing PR/PsyOps.

Muslims DID NOT attack the U.S. on 9/11. 911 WAS an inside job. Some dirty raghead CIA/Mossad Contract Agent in a cave in Tora Bora did not wave his magic Cell Phone 3 times and make the Towers fall. It wasn't done by "19ArabsWhoHateUsCuzWe'reFree". Anyone who has objectively examined the available data can only conclude that it was conducted by someone with a major government backing them - As was stated by the head of German Intelligence.

""I think the subject which will be of most importance politically is Mass Psychology...It's importance has been enormously increased by the growth of modern methods of propaganda...Although this science will be diligently studied, it will be rigidly confined to the governing class. The populace will not be allowed to know how its convictions were generated." Bertrand Russel, Eugenicist and Logician

Uh huh....1000 guys in a room...the top brass of the military engaging in the worst treason in the history of the world...remote-controlled airplanes...explosives in towers....blame it on Arabs.....pulled it off perfectly...everyone disappeared and no one has ever said a word.

Conspiracist bullshit.

The CIA has been importing Heroin and Cocaine since the Vietnam War and yet most people in government are completely unaware of it.

Try getting documents on the CIA's MK Ultra and other Mind Control Programs - which were exposed first in the early 1950's. The only public documents are a few scattered Congressional Records.

The Tuskegee Experiment remained unknown for over 20 years.

The SR-71 was operational in 1958 and yet the existence was not admitted until 1972.

Do you think conspirators who pulled off a major PsyOp which could get the electric chair if found out and prosecuted are going to advertise it?

It does not take "thousands" in the know. It takes a very few at the top and a tightly compartmentalized operation.

Osama Bin Forgotten could not order NORAD to Stand Down, nor could he have coated key points in the buildings with Nano-Thermates a technology beyond his ability.

Neither could he have caused WTC 7 to collapse into its own footprint in 6.6 Seconds (0.6 seconds over pure freefall). The only way a building collapses that fast is through controlled demolition.

None of the pilots were skilled enough to have put an airliner through the approach that the plane hitting the Pentagon did.

The signature is quite clear when you remove the blinders.

Please....give it up, Islam is not a "religion of peace and love" like Bush said it was. At the very least, X-15, the "Truth" Commission left a lot hanging.

None of the "highjackers" could fly a Cessna worth a damn, and at least six of them are still alive. One of them was interviewed by the BBC, and that interview is still available online.

To question the official story, even to allege an inside job, does not demand acceptance of the corollary that the passengers or crew survived or that they were not killed when the aircraft in question went in.

No. Thus your comment is a Strawman Argument.

I said that 911 was not conducted by "19ArabsWhoHateUsCuzWe'reFree". I stand by that comment as the evidence, an entire mountain chain of it, rests on my side of that debate.

Bullshit. One does not have to have a complete solution to know that something is rotten. Your question is posed as a stumper, with nothing to back it up and thus of no merit. While it is a detail of interest it is not of relevance in determining that the actions of 911 were the result of a well laid plan using sophisticated technology beyond the ability of a ragged Arab in a cave. Thus your argument is a Red Herring. The answer is we don't know, but then at this point we don't have to know. That is why you have honest investigations with subpoena power. What we do know is that the airliner impacts were insufficient to bring the towers down as they were designed to withstand such impacts. We also know that WTC 7 was not hit by any aircraft and that the photo dishonestly used by Popular Mechanics in their disinformation hit piece was actually a photo of WTC 6, which did not collapse, turned upside down.

The available evidence is sufficient to conclude that 911 was an Inside Job perpetrated by persons unknown.

Thanks. Generally, when I have the time, I simply regard the adverse comments as an opportunity to fill out the details. Kind of a debate Jiu Jitsu - using the adverse comments to make my point.

What. The. Fuck.

I'll repeat myself: "Whenever I ask 9/11 "truthers" what happened to the passengers and crews of all those planes the "truthers" mumble some bullshit about them being hid on a secret island with Elvis."

You just mumbled some bullshit. A whole lot of people on those planes died when they hit the buildings and the ground, you have to accept that truth and quit dodging reality.

This is why I've generally avoided the "truther" threads: people put their hands over their ears and go "lalalalalalalalala..." when their conspiracy theories fall apart at the mention of the fate of the people on those planes.

How about "The planes hit the buildings, everyone on board died... but there were ALSO explosives planted in the buildings to ensure they came down, since the force of impact and the resulting fires could have in no way have caused enough damage to bring those towers down". That work for you?

Ultimately the biggest "smoking gun" of all is WTC 7. Focus on that one, that's the weakest point in the official argument. Keep pounding on that weak spot, and eventually the whole rotten house of cards will fall down.

Science flies you to the moon.
Religion flies you into buildings.
