The 2012 presidential election may still be a few years off, but it’s never too early to think about hypothetical matchups.

One of the most intriguing — President Barack Obama vs. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — looks to be a blowout, according to a new survey from Public Policy Polling.

In a prospective contest between the president and the former Republican vice presidential nominee, Obama leads with 55 percent, compared with 35 percent for Palin. Ten percent of the adults surveyed said they were undecided.

Palin’s overall favorability ratings are unimpressive: 39 percent had a favorable opinion of the Alaska governor, while 50 percent had an unfavorable opinion. And the poll showed evidence of a large gender gap.

Sixty-one percent of women held an unfavorable opinion of Palin, compared with 29 percent who had a favorable opinion.

Men gave her a 48 percent favorable rating and a 38 percent unfavorable rating.

The survey polled 691 adults March 13-15. Subscribe to *Sarah Palin 2012*

The USA in its present form will not exist in 2012. There won't be any elections.

There are obviously several different scenarios - it doesn't take much to imagine.

One could be a 9/11 type event, but this involving nuclear or biological devices. Another could be the complete devaluation of our currency and the chaos that would ensue from that. A third could be a combination of the first two.

When it happens, martial law will be declared and draconian, new laws (probably already written) will be enacted.

The large cities with their dependent populations will fall under control fairly easily, but rural areas will prove to be more challenging.

I don't have time right now to write a lot more, but IMO elections would be viewed as impossible until all of the country was under control. I don't think that will happen before 2012.

So - to answer your question I see the USA in 2012 being basically a police state - with the dependent class pitted against those (mostly rural) who are better at fending for themselves rather than government.

Under Martial Law, I assume elections are set aside considering that some sort of War Powers will also keep the dictator in control.

Bush the little hinted at such a condition if I remember correctly.

At this point, Congress has set itself aside giving all powers to the Treasury as of Oct' 08. EO's are common. And there is nothing to stop the avalanche of tyranny, but for,
