SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans will receive a one-time payment of $250 through the national stimulus plan President Obama signed in February. The payment will be distributed to about 400,000 people who receive benefits from Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Veterans Affairs or the Railroad Retirement Board.
Cindy Padilla, who serves as Aging and Long-Term Services Department secretary, says the payment will help provide an economic boost to the elderly or those living with a disability.
A person eligible through more than one program will receive only one payment.
The installment will be sent by late May and will arrive separately from usual monthly payments.
