When I was posting from Melaque Mexico, I found a place that had a a MUCH better monitor than the usual low end stuff I was used to, basically it was a wide screen that I quickly saw the benefits of and well, I liked it alot.

As it was in a ten peso a hour icafe I figured it could have cost too much, as the Mexicans have a stiff tariff on electronic imports so I sent myself an email with the model of the monitor so I could investigate when I got home.

Home I got and investigate I did.

Now I am looking at an Acer X193W 19" fast monitor,WIDE and really think its great. Sue was doing a spread sheet and the utility value was great.

So I just got an email from the vendor, newegg telling me that this product was selected for a buyers best buy award, or something, I really haven't read the mail much, but figured if they thought it was a great product and I thought it was a great product, maybe it really was.

And for $119, free shipping, heck you cannot beat it AFAIK.

The only problem I have with it is that it was not made in the USA, and I do regret that.

Christine, I know this sounds like an ad, I guess it is, but I am solely communicating this cause it seems like a heck of a deal of what, after five days of use appears to be a stellar product - and it is a great meaningful upgrade from the normal "narrow' screen monitor.

Tom, you will find that most of the US CS workers, Dell got rid of, are working for Acer. So you are keeping them in a job, when you got your new screen :-)

p.s. I choose the Acer A1 8.9 screen over Dell's Mini 9"/10". and it had a small issue, they replaced it without any hassle.

"Don't Tread on Me", originally a war cry of Benjamin Franklin during America's fight for independence, has come to symbolize the American spirit. It first appeared on the Gadsen flag (named for and by General Christopher Gadsen) which featured the slogan below a coiled rattlesnake that was ready to attack. The snake (along with the slogan) came to symbolize America as an animal that would never strike first, but when provoked, would never give in. Today, it also symbolizes and celebrates personal independence and perseverance.

No matter what brand you buy, they are mostly made in the same area, east Asia. I have a 22' wide screen View Sonic. It is good, but I am wishing I would have got the 28' now. :)

Hey, I am happy to hear about your new job at Acer. ;)

sounds like the monitor is nice. i have an acer laptop. it's a spare i bought to mainly use to listen to internet radio. well, i'm really disappointed with it. the sound quality is awful. it's tinny and the volume even at highest setting is difficult to hear. its video is fine though.

The best, IMHO, for sound on a Laptop, is the Dell XPS M1730.. It matches my 7.1 Desktop system.. and the screen res is 1920x1200, which is out of this word, for Blue-ray playback

I run 3 acers and 1 dell on two computers the acers are X203w, P201w and a P191w don't remember what the dell is besides a wide screen 19 incher. the computer with the dell is getting a new video card in the morning which is a dual DVI so I'll be planting a couple new X203s on it, I'll take the old video card which is a dual vga Nvidia 5200 and the two nineteens and upgrade the kids computer.

It's okay, nothing special.

Acer is trying to carve out a niche in the commodity PC parts market, doing fairly well at building their brand name. I do like their netbooks and mini-pcs for the living room. They've had a good presence and some forward-looking designs there at a good price.

This is just rebadged Samsung display tech, their factory seconds. Acer has no glass factories in Korea or China.

This is not a DVI monitor. VGA-only. So you will not achieve top color accuracy with this unit. If photo/video rendering accuracy is really important to you in WYSIWG, be warned that this unit likely has only 10-bit accuracy.

You do get what you pay for. This is a good enough monitor for cheap PCs like older ones that don't have a DVI video card but it isn't suitable for anything professional.

I have a very similar Acer 19" monitor, found out that the older integrated video cards (built-in, not a separate video card) didn't have drivers to accommodate wide-screen displays. If your machine is less than four years old, you'll likely have no problems but this monitor may not work well with machines older than that, especially if they don't have a proper video card; machines like this would end up with a stretched display, making everything too wide and with nothing you can do about it.

Thanks for the info.

I posted my credentials on the subject when I told everyone that I did my research by going to a Mexican ecafe and liking what I saw.

Seems fair for $120.

good warning.

That was my purpose, so people don't fail to notice VGA-only and problems with machines 5 or more years old.
