Shooting in Butte , Montana

Butte, Montana – November 5, 2007

Shotgun preteen vs. illegal alien* Home Invaders:

Two illegal aliens, Raphael Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably believed they would easily overpower home -alone 11 year old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two-story home .

It seems the two crooks never learned two things: they were in Montana and Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine.

Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father's room and grabbed his 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.

Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast of buckshot from the 11-year-old's knee crouch aim. He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals.

When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before medical help could arrive.

It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45 caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50-year-old David Burien, was not so lucky. He died from stab wounds to the chest.

Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC, CBS, PBS, & MSNBC, CNN, or ABC news........an 11 year old girl, properly trained, defended her home and herself against two murderous, illegal aliens .......and she wins, she is still alive.

Now that is Gun Control!

A few years ago I met a mother daughter pair who were survivors of a home invasion by two Mexican nationals in nearby Pennsylvania.

The two men stabbed the son/brother to death in his bed before they tied the women up and commenced to relax for the next 8 or so hours. They then departed in a car stolen from the family.

The family is Jewish and they lived in a beautiful rural area in a nice home with no neighbors in sight.

Unfortunately, they also had no firearms or meaningful security measures in place.

The Mexicanos spoke no English and the women could only conclude that the son was murdered simply because he could have been a potential adversary and the cutthroats weren't taking any chances.

When captured it was determined that neither of the murderers had any criminal history, which makes the story all the more frightening.

Under favorable circumstances will any Mexican male in need simply kill you or I as would an opportunistic predator such as a cougar or great white shark?

WARNING TO WHITE FOLKS

In the six years I lived in Los Angeles I saw too much of the Mexican culture in all of its stark, crimson reality, and I learned two important things:

Culturally speaking, one never knows where they're coming from and we could be killed for reasons that we'll never understand,

and,

If I ever see a Mexican getting angry and there's any chance he is armed with a cuchillo I will either retreat as quickly as possible or shoot him down before I ever see the flash of steel.

If this seems harsh it's only because I learned that if one waits until the knife is visible (intent coupled with the present ability) then, Gothic horror may result so quickly that it could be over it less time than it takes to read this sentence.

What you say makes good sense. American citizens can expect little, if any, protection from the police force.

I have a riot gun. I need to get some buckshot, like the 11-year-old shooter in Butte used. Lucky for the family it happened in Montana. Some states might have charged them with a crime.

It is my understanding that, for this type of action, birdshot is more effective than buckshot. YMMV.

Right you are. Bird shot would be more humane than buckshot, but it could prove o be fatal for the shooter.

Bird shot would be more humane than buckshot

Only if you mean it results in instantaneous death for the perp. AFAIK, a shotgun blast of birdshot from any range that I can imagine within a house would certainly be fatal, if you are aiming at the target. If you are outside, and dealing with several perps approaching you, buckshot would work better. But I am no expert.

I'm no expert either, it's been years since I've fired a shotgun, so I'll take you word for it. Bird shot, I suppose, would do less damage to the interior of my house, but I would feel safer using buckshot.

DB is offering solid advice. (I wouldn't put much stock in Wikipedia on the question of the lethality and stopping power of birdshot versus other ammo)

At across the room ranges birdshot is equally deadly to any other shotgun ammo, and it minimizes the risks of over penetration in tight neighborhoods and especially apartment buildings.

In fact if you total up the actual per-pellet energy of bird versus buckshot (over 200 #6 pellets versus a dozen-00 buck) the former is considerably more powerful at close range. (before the pattern has enough distance to spread and whiz harmlessly past the intended target) And, with any full house 12 ga load you're in the neighborhood of a ton of muzzle energy and even your Mama's kiss (pardon the expression) would kill you if it hits your head, your CNS or your center of mass that hard.

One popular home security advice columnist once lamented that we can no longer buy shotgun dust for reloading. This was a very fine shot that was extremely effective on doves and other flying game and it could be used around home for all pest control chores (wink wink) without depreciating the value of the old log cabin.

And, former great Bwana-white hunter Peter Hathaway Capstick once wrote that he "nearly decapitated a lioness with birdshot at across the coffee table range".

I keep my riot gun handy and I have a 25-shell bandoleer with it, and for any pressing need inside the home the first one in the tube is a 2 3/4" #6 express magnum shell. I can load it with complete confidence that it will stop anything I want to stop. (I also have copper plated #4s at the ready and those things will drill through the heaviest fat, muscle and bones like a LASER beam! I think of those as my werewolf loads! But I also have #6 steel and steel BBs if I find myself in a protracted engagement, which is unlikely. You'll never hear anyone say, "Come on boys, let's rush the man with the shotgun! He can only get a few of us!"

Generally speaking my priorities are velocity and shot placement more so than pellet size)

Of course the myth about shotguns notwithstanding, shot placement is crucial and it is quite possible to miss at close range. The pattern doesn't begin to spread (enough to avoid turning a flying bird into mush for instance) until you get a minimum of ten yds between the muzzle and the target, and that range is extended with tighter chokes. (Riot and defense shotguns usually have no choke, known as "cylinder bore" or minimal choke such as Improved cylinder". At effective CQB ranges choke is not required for pattern constriction and in fact the rule is the less choke the better.

This pic is what a point blank birdshot blast leaves behind, and make no mistake, when I lived in an apartment I had to be ever conscious of my neighbors on the other side of my walls and be ready to either aim at a down angle or drop down and fire at an upward angle if a gremlin was standing where a blast of birdshot could be hazardous to innocents. (a blast to the pelvic area is a good downward angle shot and is almost certainly an immediately fatal fight stopper-the shock to the heaviest bones in the body and the extremely vasal area of the groin, well, it's a Hellish place to be shot)

This is another reason why taking up a position and letting grem(s) come to you gives you the advantage of picking the location where the whole intruder thing reaches critical mass.
