Title: Anyone ever get the "google redirect virus/scumware?

What I have tried so far hasn't gotten rid of it. Kind of annoying searching and then being redirected somewhere else. Also slowing my compute down.

Anyone know of any free solutions to get rid of this shit? Or better yet tell me who wrote the virus so I can go slit their throat.

That is what I call it. I search on google. Then I click. The page starts to load up. Then something in left hand corner of screen says redirect. Then some stupid site kind of related to what I was searching for pops up. Something like Isearch I think it is called. Or AT&T once. Other stuff. Loosely related to what you searched for but not what you clicked on.

Here is an example. Since it is tax season I just thought I would search for H & R block.

I search and H&R blocks page is the first choice.

I click on it and it takes me to turbo tax.

If I right click and copy link address it will take me to H&R blocks page.

Some things like freedom4um take you to freedom4um. It is just some things that get redirected.

You might want to run your computer through Symantec's free scan. Just Google "Symantec."

Do they fix it. Or is it one of them that just tells you what you have and encourages you to buy it?

I'm not saying that is bad as that could narrow down the problem. Just wonder.

It may not be your PC. What I get as a Hughes satellite user is a lame redirect to "http://wwwwh.found-not-help.com" when I type an obviously bad name into the browser. The DNS fails to resolve it, but instead of the proper DNS failure response, the bastards redirect me to the found-not-help domain and undoubtedly receive a kickback for each redirect. That page is generally filled with stupid ads, although they are at least text and not graphics. The real problem is that if the DNS is broken (can't connect to other DNS servers, port blocked, whatever), then I will get nothing but found-not-help.com screens.

Try this simple experiment, open a new browser and type and obviously gobbelygook name into the address bar like "stupidgobbelygook.com" and see what happens.

I tried your example. It just took me to the standard page not found.

This usually happens on google or yahoo searches. The correct search results show up. But when you click on it you get redirected somewhere else. If I right click and save the link location and paste it in the address bar. Then 9 times out of 10 it will go to the correct page but not all the time.

Thank You Turtle. I'm trying it now. It says I have to use internet explorer and not Firefox though. I loaded up old IE and am going to give it a shot. If this works I swear I will never eat turtle soup again. ;)

To continue with Virus Detection, click the icon at the top of the page, and then click 'Install ActiveX Control.' If you don't see the icon at the top of the page, click here.

I dont see the little symbol they are talking about. So I click on the "click here spot" Then it loops back and asks the same question.

I'll keep trying. But I would like to thank you for the advice.

bankingmyway.com

That name was bought by TheStreet.com ("TheStreet.com Inc (TS) acquired Corsis Technology Group II LLC (CT), a provider of marketing technology solutions services, for $##.### mil") so someone makes money by getting you to go there. The fact that your browser loads up that site, no matter how that happens, means someone makes a penny. Multiply that by the number of victims and clicks.

What I said before may not be true. It may be a browser plug-in on your computer that is simply ignoring the name of the site you want (that you clicked on) and sending you to some pay-for-clicks site instead.

Oh I am pretty sure that is what it is. I already called AT@T and cursed the fucker on the end of the line out. Not that he could do anything about it but I was pissed.

If you're not afraid to spend a few bucks, I use Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus. It handles viruses, browser hijacks, adware, and a bunch of other stuff.

That's not what I see, so I'm lost. You could do as I did: go to Download.com and download their free version of Ad Aware. It works just fine to remove all the bad stuff in your computer.

You need "AntiSpyware," but you will have to pay about $20. It is worth it to get rid of the junk. I had Spyware Doctor, but it did not remove the over 2,000 adware and other junk items these clowns send through your browser. Once I got rid of all that, everything worked as fast as when I purchased my computer.

OF.. first d/l these FREE products CCleaner/Spybot/Spyware Blaster.. they can be found at www.majorgeeks.com.. run each and then reboot.. next download AVG Free Anti-virus and update/run it.. if you do not have a firewall.. use either PC Tools or Zone Alarm Free versions..

Also, when you do a Google Search, many times what they "find", is a re-direct, that will take you to another site.. and you can't get back w/o re-booting your browser.

On that note, I strongly state use Firefox with Ad-Block Plus as an add-on.. I can also send you a list of the add-ons that I find to be helpful, staying safe on the net..

Hope this helps.. :-)

Truth is Treason in the Empire of Lies

"Don't Tread on Me", originally a war cry of Benjamin Franklin during America's fight for independence, has come to symbolize the American spirit. It first appeared on the Gadsen flag (named for and by General Christopher Gadsen) which featured the slogan below a coiled rattlesnake that was ready to attack. The snake (along with the slogan) came to symbolize America as an animal that would never strike first, but when provoked, would never give in. Today, it also symbolizes and celebrates personal independence and perseverance.
