The perp claims he bought the turtles from a FLA dealer, but he's almost certainly fibbing.

A medium sized spotted turtle costs around 200 bux. The small ones around 150.

I'm betting that the price he quoted to the "turtle narc" was such that he couldn't possibly have purchased them legally and still turn a profit.

And, the commercialization of wildlife was banned in 1900 by the federal Lacey Act. If the animals were illegally captured and transported across state lines then ass busting penalties can apply. (Most states mirror the federal laws so they can prosecute. Frankly, the federal courts are too long jammed to prosecute poaching of doves, ducks and deer, etc., anyway.)

Here in DE a guy was prosecuted for netting glass eels and shipping them to some Asian and European countries where they're a delicacy.

Where have all the glass eels gone? Nobody knows.
