Every so often someone on this forum will make a reference to Hitler and the Nazis in an attempt to make a point on one subject or another. Unfortunately, they are oblivious to an overriding problem regarding the subject. The problem is this: Non-stop propaganda against Hitler and the Nazis has rendered the entire subject utterly useless for thoughtful discussion. As of now Hitler and the Nazis are simply cartoon caricatures, less realistic than Howdy Doody, less believable than Paul Bunyan, and as pointless to discuss as the topic of how many angles can dance on the head of a pin. Here's how the process has worked. Someone who wishes to denigrate Hiter says "Hitler was so evil, I bet he ate Jewish babies brains for breakfast!" Someone else, who is somewhat informed on the subject, replies "Ok, Hiter was a bad guy alright, but as I understand it he was a vegetarian. So I think your claim of him being a cannibal is utterly wrong, and ultimately rather stupid." At which point the person making the original accusation says "What? Are you defending Hitler? What are you, a NAZI? How dare you DEFEND HITLER, you NAZI BASTARD." And at this point all rational discussion ends. The subject is taboo, any claims no matter how obviously absurd that denigrate Hitler, the Nazis and the German people are allowed to stand, and any arguments that attempt to refute those claims are attacked with a viciousness that would make a rabid wolverine seem downright meek by comparison. This process has continued for over sixty years.
The end result of this? The topic is now utterly meaningless, totally useless for any rational discussion, a whole chapter of history has been turned into a mindless propaganda cartoon. So what's the point? Why even bother to ever mention Hitler or the Nazis? You may as well discuss the philosophy of Woody Woodpecker or the resource management techniques of Santa Claus. It's all fictitious nonsense, completely useless, and ultimately a complete and total waste of time to discuss.
