The godfather (and uncle) of a 21-year-old female Canadian soldier killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan just two weeks into her first deployment fears the young woman's sacrifice was in vain. Echoing the sentiments of many Quebecers, Mario Blais said "I think she did this for absolutely nothing" and it's time for Ottawa to pull Canadian troops out. Blais said Prime Minister Harper should get troops out of there as fast as possible and that the Canadian military should return to its peacekeeping roots, not engage in combat missions. Blais said his goddaughter, who previously worked at a convenience store, enjoyed enjoyed adventure and hoped the army would help her learn a trade that she could apply outside of the military. She had hoped to buy a house with her ex-soldier boyfriend at the end of her tour. She joined when recruiters stopped by her school
POSTER COMMENT: In all likelihood, most Canadian schools have emphasized the peacekeeping role that the late (Liberal) Prime Minister Pearson initiated for Canada's military. So if recruits had this in mind when they joined they didn't expect Harper to pull a fast one and have them fight Israel's war in Afghanistan (which would assure him and his Conservatives of support from Organized Jewry and the media it controls in Canada).
