A Virginia pro-life group reports it has been listed as an "extremist" organization in a state report. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a report last week that created quite a storm, claiming certain groups of people are at risk for being or becoming "extremists" as members of "right-wing" organizations. That report identified no specific groups. But Dennis Green of Life & Liberty Ministries received a call from a friend who found his group's name listed on a state report. "Our ministry was named as being a potential domestic terrorist in a report," says Green. "It was the '2009 Virginia Terrorist [Threat] Assessment' report put out by the Fusion Center -- and it was for the Virginia State Police." VirginiaGreen is concerned that his ministry was placed in unfamiliar territory in the report. "[We were named] along with al-Qaida and the anarchists and people who are involved with bio-terrorism," he explains. "They list our evangelistic outreach as 'potential terrorists.'" And that, says Green, is a total oddity because his ministry has never been involved in violence or any attempt to overthrow the government. "I guess from what I'm hearing on the radio, it's anybody who's a Bible-believing Christian....[It] seems like they're falling into that camp nowadays," he laments. Green plans to appeal the classification of his ministry to Virginia officials.

DHS branding pro-lifers as extremists is just a bureaucratic ploy to find something to "do" and justify its existence. Watch the Department setup a section to deal with these "radicals" along the lines that Rotara outlined in his skit about the bureaucracy built around the hiring (then laying off) of a watchman.
Are you saying Rotara has the best bylines since the invention of sliced bread?

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition Religious beliefs, not sanctioned by the State, is considered terrorism? The release of this memo is a net positive for the good guys.
The government is a tool for social change. Discontented with leaving abortion and embryonic stem cell research in private hands, Obama and his supporters would like to see the federal government paying for these activities. They know the moral outrage is coming, because they understand that no government can call itself representative when it violates commonly held ethical values (even when these values may not be the majority's view).

They know the moral outrage is coming because they are intentionally picking the fight and the opponent. They are also miscalculating the number of opponents, on the short side.
The Bush and Regan administrations have left them with numerous tools for imposing their will.
The paradoxical skit that Rotara presented illustrated the process by which initiative-stifling bureaucracies develop within democracies and which are taking the West ever closer to the state of affairs in the old Soviet Union. Rarely is there a sunset clause in their establishment. We have to have Depressions or catastrophes like Katrina to purge the system of them. Don't know what you mean by your "bylines" question. Bylines (naming the writer) are given by an editor for a worthy story. On 4um everyone gets a byline. And sliced bread isn't that great an invention. Better to break off chunks from a whole loaf; sliced bread molds faster.
