The NSA is the one agency that's well aware of most and possibly all of Israel's intrigue, and they want to make sure that the premiere spy agency remains on top of the techno spying/communications intercept game, and that Israel doesn't amass so much control over Congress that even the totally black budget and completely independent NSA ends up answering to and tiptoeing around Jewish influence.

Israel is about three political appointments and two blackmail videos away from demanding that their shitty little state be exempt from all monitoring (and, possibly the appointment of an "Israeli liaison with a master key to monitor the entire Ft. Mead installation") and the NSA is well aware of the threat to their literally unlimited power looming on the horizon.

And, unlike elected politicians who'd sell their mothers to the Arabs to keep their seats, (and who will quite predictably finger the young Jewish staffers in training bras sent in to catch them on camera for Israel's convenience, comfort, safety and peace of mind) the NSA is staffed by career Naval officers and civilian intel workers who are exceptionally proud of their technological achievements, the quality of their intel gathering and the amazing capacity for storage, retrieval and processing of data on virtually every person of interest worldwide.

And these consummate professional satellite hanging spies don't want anyone to be immune and worse, to dictate policy to them simply because our politicians are so wormy and are so easily corrupted with cocaine BJs, reverse yentl schtupps and bags of sweet smelling and freshly laundered ecstasy cash. (Remember Bill Clinton and Gary Condit?)

Our dutiful politicians would have released Jay Pollard long ago if not for the power of the intel community. (One former DCI threatened to resign if Pollard was released, and no president could withstand the resulting stink of that-and none would call that bluff) And, if our most powerful *spooks want these prosecutions to go forward in the interest of national security then that is what will happen, and not even blatantly unprincipled political hacks such as Alberto "horchata y uno burrito, por favor" Gonzales or Eric "How did I get this fuckin' job?" Holder can derail it.
