MADISON, Wis. -- Milwaukee's police chief said Tuesday he'll go on telling his officers to take down anyone with a firearm despite Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen's finding that people can carry guns openly if they do it peacefully.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said he'll continue to tell officers they can't assume people are carrying guns legally in a city that has seen nearly 200 homicides in the past two years.

"My message to my troops is if you see anybody carrying a gun on the streets of Milwaukee, we'll put them on the ground, take the gun away and then decide whether you have a right to carry it," Flynn said. "Maybe I'll end up with a protest of cowboys. In the meantime, I've got serious offenders with access to handguns. It's irresponsible to send a message to them that if they just carry it openly no one can bother them."

Wisconsin is one of 29 states that allow people to openly carry a firearm without a permit. It's one of two states that ban concealed weapons.

Flynn's comments came as gun control advocates and state lawmakers derided Van Hollen's ruling.

"The idea of people ... openly carrying guns strikes me as somewhere between bonkers and totally ridiculous and stupid," said state Rep. Josh Zepnick, D-Milwaukee. Subscribe to *Jack-Booted Thugs*

It's time to place Flynn's head on a pike.

So this guy is saying he's going to ignore the law and proceed to assault those who are peacefully exercising their rights.

I think this idiot needs to be given his pink slip and shown the door, and possibly arrested for violating the civil rights of his victims.

I wonder what happens if someone were to defend themselves against his "troops" if they were to try to "take someone down".

Then he must have serious issues with cops, as they openly carry guns.

My advice to Freemen of conscience:

Carry your firearm, but conceal it. If need be use it and aim well. With attitudes like Flynn's we can not take the chance witnesses will be truthful, so be certain there are none.

Wouldn't it be just terrible if some innocent person who was minding his own business, not bothering anyone and only exercising his rights blew some of Flynn's "troops" away? Or even Flynn himself? Yes, what a terrible thing. I would just hate if that happened. Truly.

Makes perfect sense -- in Milwaukee, and won't change much there. The odds of a person openly carrying and acting orderly are fairly small. Brandishing is the norm.

The best thing that might come out of this is a straightening-out of Wisconsin gun laws. Twice the guv has vetoed concealed-carry.

Most of the present problems could have been avoided had the Governor agreed to develop a reasonable policy allowing law-abiding citizens (with appropriate training, licensing and certification) to carry concealed firearms under certain circumstances. He didn't though. As a result, you now have laws on the book which are in direct conflict with the plain language of the Wisconsin Constitution.

Wisconsin enacted a right-to-bear-arms constitutional amendment in 1998.

Libertarians say whites should have the same right to all-white communities that other races do in their own communities. Nobody listens to them, but that doesn't stop them.

Libertarians are dismissed for a reason everyone knows but nobody says.

Anyone know who the other 28 states are?

I did a quick search if that question is of interest.

Re: Which States Allow Open Carry Posted by Corey Miller on 4/06/06

Idaho in fact allows open carry in your vehicle, on your person, etc. as long as you don't conceal it. Concealed weapons permits are easily obtainable here. If your record is clean of course. You simply need to take proof of firearms training, such as a hunting permit from any state, a gun safety class, a police training cert., etc. to your local sheriff's office. Pay a fee and they conduct a background check, if you have no violent crimes you will get your CCW license in 6 to 8 weeks. > > On 3/04/04, CAPTAIN MIKE wrote:

1. CCW required for open carry in a vehicle
2. Additional restrictions may be at a local level
3. Only allowed when traveling
4. Only allowed with special permit or license; additional restrictions may apply
5. Open carry requires CCW permit
6. Open carry prohibited in vehicle; permitted on person.
Most federal laws do not distinguish between open and concealed carry. The one exception is aboard commercial aircraft. Federal law prohibits carrying a concealed dangerous weapon aboard an aircraft but not an unconcealed one. This loophole is closed by FAA Regulations, which prohibit any carrying of a dangerous weapon whether or not concealed.

This is another illustration of the urban-versus-rural, city-versus-country split in the body politic.

I am out here in the country among the rurals and they still can't understand how they lost the election.

It's called "one person, one vote" whereas they seem to think it is or ought to be "one square mile, one vote."

I wouldn't and won't ever live in an urban/suburban area, but I do understand basic arithmetic and that the sparsely-populated rural and semi-rural areas are not going to get their way on most issues.

It's too bad for the GOPers that big cities exist. If you look at maps of the counties they carried, it's still probably way more than half the territory of the country.
