(04-28) 09:08 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Several officials say veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania intends to switch parties, advancing his own hopes of winning a new term next year while pushing Democrats one step closer to a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

The sources said an announcement could come later in the day — or Wednesday. The officials who provided the information did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss his plans.

Specter is a 79-year-old veteran of five Senate terms, and one of only a handful of moderate Republicans left in Congress in a party made up largely of conservatives.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, they can have him. Not that he's much different than the Senate Republicans to begin with....

Maybe this is just the beginning.

Maybe Ron Paul really will take over the GOP.

;-)

A. Spectre is not a moderate. He is, and has long been, a liberal and a RINO.

B. The Republican Party is not largely made up of conservatives. It is largely made up of tools who talk conservative and vote against the Constitution.

C. Good riddance to Spectre and I hope the bastard loses his seat.

proof that most of the elite politicians are unprincipled and that their strongest conviction is their selfish political expedience.

Specter, in a second stunning move, opened an account at the Nest. His tentative screen name will be Another leftist Jew for Obama.

In reality, MOST of the GOPers from up North and East and out West are not compatible even with the so-called "Blue Dog" caucus of Southern Democrats, much less the "true believers" in their own party.

The Southerners have a point when they claim this is not their country. There is no way they can ever reconcile their Bible thumping/warmongering (the two are related because they emphasize 'Yahweh' the angry god of the chosen people who wipes out anyone in their path) with the more rational viewpoints of the other regions of the country.

This is a country ruled by one political party now. And it will be for as far as the eye can see or until we collapse. The latter will come first, I think.
