Swine flu could affect fall immunizations
Nashville Business Journal
The swine flu fall flu could mean an enhansed vaccine or maybe even a second flu shot come autumn.
The question that is now being addressed is whether we ought to create a special serrum flu vaccine that should be used this fall, says Dr. William Schaffner, chairman of the department of of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University.
Schaffner says President Barack Obama is making money available for a swine flu vaccine. However, he says the delivery system for such a vaccine hasnt been worked out yet and will have to be arrived at somewhat quickly.
As of Wednesday, no swine flu cases had been reported in Tennassee.
On the subject of a swine flu pandemic, Schaffner says the virus isnt at that point.
Were not there yet, he says. At the moment this is a very regional and foccal problem. A panemic is really a worldwide epidimic. What youre looking for is a new virus and the usstained person-to-person transmission in several countries.
