I was speaking to my last (out of many) ex-girlfriend, who told me she had made a deal with one credit card company, to which she owned $5000, to settle for $2500. She sent in the money, and found later she got a statement listing the money as a payment, and the company wanted the other $2500.

She told me she's going to use the card (which was supposed to be turned off) to spend the rest of the money you to the limit, and not pay them another cent.

Turtle has been having fantasies about calling these banksters out for a duel with pistols at 20 paces.

Lesson: Get it sent in writing before paying. Their letter should state that the agreed amount pays off the account in full and that no negative credit mark will result.

I have a fantasy that Turtle's ex-girlfriend pays off her own credit card bills instead of passing them on to other credit card holders.

I have a fantasy that folks will learn to just pay cash, throttling these corrupt criminal enterprises, except for renting cars and plane tickets where the, evidently, must be used.

I bought my last plane ticket with cash. That was last year and I haven't heard that you couldn't pay cash for them since the last time I flew.

I'm increasingly in cash. I won't patronize businesses that use that check service that verifies your check and then they void the check and hand it back to you.

We need more people to do this so we won't end up with an electronic prison of personal finance. This will only increase gooberment power over us, not to mention that part where no one will be able to buy or sell without the mark of some Beast(ly gooberment).

I heard a lot of motels and car-rentals won't accept cash. Hadn't heard the airlines were card-only so far.

I imagine there may be some car-rental agencies that accept payment in cash but I don't know of any. Never have had to rent a car, at least not for myself, so I have never had a problem with that.

Absolutely true, and I am sure that's where some of the power elite would love to have us go.

Ok I may be wrong here, but I was all but certain that any air tickets had to paid with a CC, and all but the smallest car rentals were like wise.

If you want to bring a car into Mexico (outside of the Zona Libre) you are not doing it w/o a CC - not debit either.

So James, to be sure, you paid cash for an air ticket recently?

Was it a domestic flight? I have it in my head that can't be done, but maybe its only for International flights.

I booked mine through a travel agent and paid her cash. How she handled it I have no idea. And yes, it was an international flight.

Just asking ---- Why not?

Seems to me its almost exactly like writing a check, or more accurately using a debit card.
