Africans must travel to the moon to investigate what developed nations have been doing in outer space, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said Saturday.

“The Americans have gone to the moon. And the Russians. The Chinese and Indians will go there soon. Africans are the only ones who are stuck here,” Museveni said, addressing a meeting of the Uganda Law Society in Entebbe.

“We must also go there and say: ‘What are you people doing up here?’”

Museveni urged the assembly of Uganda’s top lawyers to support East African integration, arguing that one of the region’s goals should be to develop a space programme.

“Uganda alone cannot go to the moon. We are too small. But East Africa united can. That is what East African integration is all about,” he said. “Then we can say to the Americans: ‘”

Museveni has vocally campaigned for a common East African economic and political zone.

Negotiations to establish a tariff free trade zone including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda have been ongoing for months.

Museveni on Saturday also called for enhanced political integration among the East African nations, suggesting the region would be strengthened by becoming one country.

Don't we always send chimps first?

Christ, did I just say that?

When in doubt, doubt.

O.K., so I'm ignorant.

What do these countries trade with each other? I mean, besides pathogens.

When in doubt, doubt.

‘What are you people doing up here?’

Same as you apparently.

Fuck all.

When in doubt, doubt.

I don't know whether to look at this as a tragedy or comedy. Either way, it's impossible.

Either way, it's impossible.

This effort should be fully funded by the Obama administration.

Criminy, in what, mud rockets?

Maybe they better work on that whole Bronze Age thingy first.

Godfrey Smith: Mike, I wouldn't worry. Prosperity is just around the corner.
Mike Flaherty: Yeah, it's been there a long time. I wish I knew which corner.

Don't the Black Muslims believe in 144,000 black muslims inside the moon? And MR. Yakub?

Boy, fun is to be had with these people!

Criminy, in what, mud rockets?

They'll use sticks too. And a giant bow as their "launch pad".

All they need to do is put some bones thru their noses, dance around the fire a few times, pound some drums to invoke the god of ... never mind.

It's a fine line between being too specific and long winded and therefore too irritating to bother to read, and being too cryptic and therefore too irritating to try to interpret.

It's a forum post, not a doctoral thesis.

This has gotten me to thinking about track and field, for some reason. It seems oddly appropriate that one of the events these folk have NOT excelled in is the pole vault.

A fortiori, it isn't very likely that rocket science and/or space travel would be their strong suit.

And I am sure they will just as soon as they get all the "modalities" worked out.

Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end.
