Specter Will Be Junior Democrat on Committees

May 5, 2009, 8:55 p.m.

Roll Call Staff

Despite promises from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) would retain his seniority after switching parties, Specter will be put at the end of the seniority line on all his committees but one under a resolution on the floor late Tuesday.

Under the modified organizing resolution, Specter will not keep his committee seniority on any of the five committees that he serves on and will be the junior Democrat on all but one — the chamber’s Special Committee on Aging. On that committee, he will be next to last in seniority.

As a result, Specter — who as a Republican was ranking member on the Judiciary Committee and a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, as well as ranking member of the panel’s Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education — will now rank behind all the other Democrats, at least until the end of this Congress.

According to a senior Democratic aide, it remains unclear whether Specter — who will still retain his seniority in the Senate outside of the committees — will see a boost in his committee seniority should he be re-elected for the next session. The status of his seniority for the next Congress will be determined once the 112th Congress convenes in 2011, the aide said.

Democrats said that while unrelated, Specter’s comments to the New York Times Magazine this weekend indicating he would support former Sen. Norm Coleman’s (R-Minn.) disputed re-election bid against Al Franken have angered many Democrats.

“Sen. Specter better watch comments like these. They won’t help him in the caucus,” a Democratic leadership aide said, adding that the comments have “caused a lot of heartburn in the caucus.” (1 image)

Unrelated my ass.

That is exactly why Specter's promise of seniority wasn't kept.

But, he is such an insufferably arrogant shitbag that I'm glad the DEMs stuck it to him.

And, I hope a Dem primaries him in PA, wins the primary and loses the election to a Republican for Specter's seat!

That way there will be no way to avoid the conclusion that Specter shot himself in the ass!

Better yet, maybe his erstwhile constituents will stuff him in a steamer trunk.

Where's the Old Testament love from the Dems??? After all, Specter IS one of the tribe.

Old Testament love is very tough love indeed.

No Samaritans around these parts, that's for sure.

Didn't they do the same thing to Jeffords when he switched? Isn't that why he went Independent?

Well said.

For the benefit of those who may not know, as a defense attorney Specter managed to get bail for psycho crazy guru Ira Einhorn, who claims the CIA murdered his girlfriend and stashed her in Ira's apartment for months.

Of course Ira wasn't at all curious about the smell of her decaying remains which is why they weren't discovered until the police searched the place.

And, after making bail Einhorn fled to Europe and lived the good life for 16 years, apparently unburdened by any guilt.

And, Specter lost no sleep (or elections) because he got the psycho out of jail.

And, after Einhorn was returned and jailed his brother "suddenly remembered" some suspicious looking men in trench coats" hanging around Ira's place, so, obviously the CIA murdered Holly Maddux then stashed her in a trunk in a closet to set Ira up!

"WE BELIEVE HIM!" PA Gov Ed Rendell and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham said.

"We sat in Synagogue with Ira's father and we know that a nize, Jewish boy wouldn't do that!" they added.

Jeffords never became a DEM nor did he ever cross them as far as I know. In fact, he made a deal with the DEMs that was very accommodating, one that allowed him to hold committee seats just as if he had the seniority of a lifelong DEM in exchange for the pledge to vote with the party except by special leave of the party leadership.

I believe that he is also permitted to caucus w/ DEMs which is mutually beneficial-they know where he stands and he can input on pending bills while remaining an "IINO"

Dang, that really makes Specter an ass. I knew about Einhorn but didn't know Specters' involvement.

I'm guessing that they'd take the necessary steps to absolutely prevent the disease of career political incumbency.

And, they'd make recalling a rep, senator and president as easy as collecting the signatures and paying a .01 per page (limit 1000 signatures per page) filing fee.

Dang, that really makes Specter an ass. I knew about Einhorn but didn't know Specters' involvement.

Years ago the son of the Director of The Delaware State Hospital murdered his parents and went on the lam, where he reportedly murdered others in LA and CA.

When he was finally captured and returned to DE to face the possibility of the death penalty, one of the more famous forensic shrinks in the state (and also incidentally a fellow non-Christian) claimed that "Charlie was much sicker than we ever believed!" (A "diagnosis" made years after the fact and questioned by no one, least of all the timid Attorney General)

Notice the absence of any description or info about the book on Amazon.

Charles Cohen is now incarcerated in the same hospital where his father was the director.

We see this time and time again. Some Red Sea Pedestrian is charged with murder and other unspeakable crimes and the legal, psychiatric, religious, political and business communities come to aid the fellow "victim of poisecution".

And, none of the Gentiles who witness it dare to call them out for it.

The State of DE also reneged on its contract with Fred Leuchter after he testified that no gas was used in Auschwitz, and he had successfully built our lethal injection chamber and fulfilled the contract completely.

NOT ONE SOUL spoke up and said, "Hey, we owe the man for work already performed and right is right!" lest they cross the lone Jewish Deputy Attorney General who led the witch hunt against Leuchter.

Specter's fall is connected to the Harman case, imo. Rahmbo is consolidating the Jewish power-base in DC and is getting rid of dead wood.

Club for shrinkage

Mr Specter argued that he had almost no choice but to abandon an increasingly shrunken and hardline party. More than 200,000 Pennsylvania Republicans, most of them suburban moderates, shifted their party identification to the Democrats during the last election cycle, giving Mr Obama a ten-point victory in the state and leaving Mr Specter at the mercy of an ever-diminishing band of hardliners. Mr Specter’s particular nemesis, the Club for Growth, is proving to be a Club for Shrinkage.

The Republican Party would be wise to think carefully about its loss of Mr Specter, one of America’s best known senators, whose views are shared by many old-line business-friendly Republicans. Some clearly realise what a mess their party is in. Ms Snowe described his decision to jump ship as “devastating” both “personally and then for the party”. But all too many others were content to respond with lame jokes (“I read that he was switching parties, but was disappointed to learn he’s still a Democrat”) and even lamer declarations of ideological purity.

It is interesting, but not surprising, that every time the Republicans lose there are these calls to move further to the left.

As I've gotten older I've become more disgusted with people who refuse to look beyond the 'either/or' party affiliations. People DO have options besides the same old cliches-in-suits.

This brand of pauncy rhetoric is the language you expect from this pack of losers.

It's the kinda talk that you expect to hear on the Chris "Tinkles" Matthews show.

“Devastated.” Why not "pained" or "deeply hurt"? Let's all pull out our hankies for the erstwhile Grand Ol' Party.

Some rubes may weep for them, but most of the sheep won't bother to vote for them, and the 'pubs deserve it. They got no starch.

Wiki:

There are several versions of the text of the Second Amendment, each with slight capitalization and punctuation differences, found in the official documents surrounding the adoption of the Bill of Rights.[1] One such version was passed by the Congress, which reads:[2]

“ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. ”

Another version is found in the copies distributed to the states, and then ratified by them, which had this capitalization and punctuation:[3]

“ A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. ” _____________________________________________________________________

Note also that the word "State" is capitalized in all versions, whatever construction you want to put on that.

But I think I get your point here. There are tons of guns out there in millions of hands. Just let the feds try to get their claws on them or the ammunition that is fed into them. Perhaps then the average American will wake from his slumber and get red hot.
