Babies given formula milk instead of being breastfed are 25 per cent more likely to become obese.

Almost one in six bottle-fed babies are obese by the time they reach primary school, an international study of more than 100,000 six to nine-year-olds found.

Children never given breast milk have 25 per cent higher odds of obesity than those whose mothers exclusively breastfed them for at least six months.

Experts believe formula may cause babies to gain more weight and grow faster because it is developed from cows' milk, which has higher levels of protein and may trigger the growth of fat cells.

I'm not saying it is not; however, I'm not convinced that feeding babies formula instead of breast milk is the reason for the higher rates of obesity in children. The families are not identical so other factors may be the reason.

It may be that it is not unlike the fact that over a lifetime, college graduates earn considerable more than high school graduates. What that fact is true, it doesn't follow that getting a college degree is the reason. The average IQ of college graduates is about 113 to 115 and the average IQ of the group of high school graduates that don't attend college is less than 100. That is because the average IQ of high school graduated including those that attend college is 100. Therefore, college graduates average about 1 standard deviation greater IQ than high school graduates.

And, although not a big difference, college graduates are typically better looking and have fewer health problems. And, it may be that college graduate come from higher income families. Also, college graduate tend to have greater motivation than high school graduates that don't attend college. Therefore, the higher lifetime earning is far more the result of higher IQ's, greater motivation, social class of their families, and better looks and health than then the additional education.

When I was in grade school I saw some papers on teachers desk that said I had an I.Q. of 120. I was a grunt for the Highway Dept. and drove a truck cross country at one point. I could read a map and find my way around. Now they have GPS in the trucks. I did not want to go to college, even though I went to a college prep High School.

I got into politics working for the Committeeman and that led to my first good job. When I walked into the State yard and handed the Lead, Lead my letter of appointment he said, "We haven't had a probation here in 3 years." I worked there for 18 years and when I left I started driving trucks OTR and did that even after I moved to Missouri.

BTW, I had 2 liens from the IRS against me in the town I lived when driving the truck. I had these credit repair lawyers, Lexington Law, from Salt Lake City challenge the IRS. They could not prove I owed the tax and were forced to withdraw the liens. Now my Credit Karma says "0" for Public Filings when it used to say "2". ;)
