TEHRAN (FNA)- US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated that President Donald Trump wants to be impeached because he thinks the Senate, controlled by Republicans, would bail him out.

Speaking on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday, the California Democrat said, "I think the president wants us to impeach him," adding, “He knows it's not a good idea to be impeached, but the silver lining for him is then, he believes, that he would be exonerated by the United States Senate”, World News reported.

She noted that "there is a school of thought that says, 'If the Senate acquits you, why bring charges against him in the private sector when he's no longer president?' So when we go through with our case, it's got to be ironclad. Ironclad".

Pelosi stated the Senate is "completely in the pocket of Donald Trump", noting the Republican senators were likely to side with Trump, even if they knew he had committed a crime.

"And you think those Republican senators, even if they know he committed a crime, will side with Donald Trump?" Kimmel asked.

"They have been every day. Not one of them has spoken up," she replied.

Pelosi also stressed that Democrats understand “our oaths of office”, but Trump does not and does not defend the US Constitution either.

“We understand our oaths of office, to defend the Constitution of the United States. Apparently, the president does not understand his oath of office. He doesn’t honor the oath to protect and defend," she added.

It comes as calls for impeachment of Trump have grown among politicians in the US in the wake of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s final statement at the conclusion of the so-called Russia probe.

In his first public remarks since concluding the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, Mueller said on Wednesday that charging Trump with a crime on obstruction of justice "was not an option we could consider". The special counsel pointed to a Department of Justice guidance saying that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime, stating that "if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so".

Despite ardent efforts by Democratic leaders to steer the caucus away from opening impeachment proceedings against Trump, Mueller's announcement sparked a new series of calls by Democrats for the House to move in that direction. Mueller's surprise public remarks put new pressure on House Democrats as they scramble to advance their investigations into the president’s conduct.

Talk of impeachment has heated up in recent weeks, especially following Rep. Justin Amash's (R-Mich.) calls to impeach Trump, becoming the first Republican to make such comments. The chorus of Democrats calling for impeachment also grew louder after former White House Counsel Don McGahn skipped out on a testimony at the White House's instruction.

Reacting on social media, many saw Mueller's comments about not being able to charge a sitting president as a signal to Democrats in Congress that they should begin impeachment proceedings against him.

Sounds like she's saying that Trump can't be impeached ever for willful violations of the Constitution because he doesn't understand it or his oath to defend it, but all Democrats do intentionally violate their oaths to protect and defend it everytime they attack the Bill of Rights and all else they despise about it -- so, is suggesting that every single one of them and their DNC Party officials, too, should be impeached immediately for all they've done to destruct the Constitution and America's Republic of it because she thinks the House of Representatives controlled by Democrats would acquit all of them before those matters of evidence would proceed to the Senate.
