Texas gunman purchased weapon in private sale, which doesn't require background check

Seven people were killed, in addition to the gunman, and at least 21 others were wounded in a mass shooting in Texas. The gunman fled from state troopers who had tried to pull him over. The gunman then hijacked a United States postal van and indiscriminately fired a rifle at people before authorities shot and killed him outside a movie theater in Odessa.

The gunman who killed seven people and injured more than 20 in a shooting rampage around Odessa, Texas, purchased his weapon from a private seller, a transaction that does not require a background check, law enforcement officials told NBC News.
Investigators are now looking into who sold the weapon to 36-year-old Seth Ator, who failed a gun background check in 2014 because, law enforcement officials told NBC News, he had a disqualifying mental health issue.
If the person who sold the gun to Ator knew of his mental health issues, that seller could face criminal charges.

The House passed a bill in February that would require background checks for nearly all private sales, except those involving family members. But the Senate won't act on it until President Donald Trump makes his position clear.
Ator had been fired by his employer, Journey Oil Field Services, on Saturday, right before he went on his rampage in the neighboring cities of Odessa and Midland.
He was killed in a shootout with police.

I know the guy that sold the Australian Semi-Auto Pistol (.223 cal) to the Bearded Bandit. He was a bank robber in Chicago area. After they caught him, they put him in the federal lockup in the Dirksen Building. Another guy I knew, his Uncle was a Deputy U.S. Marshal. He killed the Bearded Bandit on the parking ramp of the Dirksen Building when he was trying to escape.

One time in Chicago, many years ago, the neighbor across the street decided to put on a block party for his one daughter who was turning 16.
A few of us decided to get a head start on it. We got a case of beer and had the tailgate down on the Blazer. A car went by slowly with two black guys in it.
One of the guys with us said, "Niggers? What are niggers doing around here?" The neighbor was down the street getting some stuff from his car. The cops pulled up and were talking with him. He told us later they asked what we were doing down the street. He told the cops, "They're just getting some stuff from their truck." The cops backed up and left.
These two black guys heard what my friend said, so they backed up since they saw the cops up the street and they figured to be brave.
One of them said, "Man, there ain't no niggers here. We all gonna get busted together and go to 26th and California (County Jail) where the brutha's is at." I said, "Later man."
They said, "Ain't gonna be later. It's gonna be now. We got something that's gonna blow your shit away."
So I called their bluff and went in the house to get the Mini-14. Meanwhile the neighbor came over there and told them, "You know what he is going to get."
About that time I came out the door with the rifle and chambered a round. When they saw that, they floored it and blew the stop sign at the corner getting out of there.
I ran out in the street with the rifle and put it in the back of the Blazer. Then I got in and drove around to the back of the house and parked in the garage.
Never seen those two darkies again. ROTFLMAO!
