This war started the US ownership of Al Qaeda. They were used to force the Russians to invade Afghanistan in order to bankrupt the Soviet Union. Zbigniew Brzezinski was the planner. Carter was stupid to see what was going on. The Israelis made sure the Afghans only had enough weapons to get killed. Reagan got the Pakistanis involved and gave them stinger missiles. Russia admitted to losing 999 planes and copters. probably more.
