Northville teacher Jason Dean charged with 2010 sex crimes involving 14-year-old student

A Northville High School math teacher was arraigned Wednesday for sex crimes, alleged to have happened with an eighth-grade student in 2010 when he was a teacher at Cedar Crest Academy in Springfield Township.

Jason William Dean, 36, of Livonia, is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct - relationship. Judge Joseph Fabrizio of Clarkston’s 52-2 District Court set his bond at $500,000, requiring 10 percent cash surety to be posted. He's held in the Oakland County Jail. He's scheduled for a probable cause conference at the Clarkston district court on Feb. 10.

First-degree criminal sexual conduct carries a penalty of up to life in prison.

The former student came forward this month with allegations of sexual assault that she said happened on school grounds, at after-school events and at other location when she was 14 years old, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said Dean is expected to be arraigned on two more charges Thursday in 51st District Court in Waterford.

Dean was arrested Monday following an investigation by the sheriff’s office Special Investigation Unit and the Computer Crimes Unit. According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation revealed the allegations could be corroborated with evidence, indicating a sexual relationship between Dean and the student.

“I applaud this brave victim in coming forward to report this truly atrocious behavior by a teacher,” Sheriff Mike Bouchard stated in a news release. “Our teachers are supposed to be trusted mentors, role models and leaders for our children, and when one violates this trust, they must be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent of the law.” Defense attorney Steven Schwartz said he's waiting for evidence from the prosecutor's office about the alleged crimes.
