Donald Trump’s jaw was on the ground after he got hit with this threat about the military

Donald Trump’s leadership is being tested on every front.

Democrats are probing for the best way to turn the coronavirus into a political liability for the President.

And Donald Trump’s jaw was on the ground after he got hit with this threat about the military.

Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly became the new target for the Democrats and Fake News Media after Acting Secretary Modly relieved Navy Captain Brett Crozier of his command of the aircraft carrier the USS Theodore Roosevelt after Crozier wrote a letter he knew would be leaked about the coronavirus.

Captain Crozier granted his crew shore leave in Vietnam, which exposed the crew to the coronavirus.

As cases spread on the aircraft, Crozier wrote a letter outside the chain of command and sent thought unclassified channels pleading with the government for help.

The military eventually evacuated the ship in Guam, but the Navy removed Captain Crozier from his post for violating the chain of command.

Acting Secretary Modly addressed the crew and said Captain Crozier was either too “naïve or stupid” if he thought his letter would not leak in today’s poisonous environment.

“If he didn’t think, in my opinion, that this information wasn’t going to get out into the public, in this day and information age that we live in, then he was either A, too naive or too stupid to be a commanding officer of a ship like this. The alternative is that he did this on purpose. And that’s a serious violation of the [Uniform Code of Military Justice] which you are all familiar with,” the acting Secretary explained.

A fair point, albeit a bit blunt.

This incensed Democrat Congressman Adam Smith who serves as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Sensing political opportunity Smith released a statement demanding Acting Secretary Modly resign.

“I disagree strongly with the manner in which acting Secretary of the Navy Modly has handled the COVID-19 outbreak on the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt. His decision to relieve Captain Crozier was at best an overreaction to the extraordinary steps the Captain took to protect his crew,” the statement began.

“Acting Secretary Modly’s decision to address the sailors on the Roosevelt and personally attack Captain Crozier shows a tone-deaf approach more focused on personal ego than one of the calm, steady leadership we so desperately need in this crisis,” Congressman Smith added.

This – Congressman Smith claimed – added up to him no longer having confidence in Acting Secretary Modly’s leadership.

By mid-day Tuesday, it was all a moot point, as Acting Secretary Modly handed in his resignation to President Trump.

Still, that’s unlikely to keep Democrats like Adam Smith and members of the press from using the story as a bludgeon against President Trump.

The Navy is the only branch of the military mentioned in the Constitution.
