New York State now has recorded 17,131 coronavirus deaths.
This came after New York officials dumped another 3,700 “presumed” coronavirus cases to their fatality numbers earlier this week.
New York state has 19.85 million people.
New York state leaders put the entire state in lockdown in March. New York City Mayor de Blasio says the state will not reopen until July or August at the earliest.
Sweden has 1,511 recorded coronavirus deaths.
Sweden has 10.2 million people.
Sweden left its economy open during the coronavirus pandemic.
Sweden is a country half the size of New York State and has one-tenth the coronavirus deaths.
And Sweden will have an economy after the coronavirus pandemic runs its course.

For years they dumped it 50 miles off shore when I lived there and it killed everything. The government stopped that and they loaded it in freight trains to Texas to spread on open territory. The last I knew they were shipping it daily to Florida to spread in the orange groves.

Much of the industrial waste went into the sewage system. Plus the cast iron soil pipes they had to seal the joints with lead. I knew a plumber and he had all the tools to do that. He was quite a guy and was in underwater demolitions during WW II in south Pacific. He told me he got drunk and Vanilla extract once so he would never eat Vanilla ice cream. LOL

When I worked for the State of Illinois, one of the jobs we had was operating the Vactor to clean catch basins. It was basically a big sucking machine with a fan that made suction thru a tube system. The debris would be shot back into a tank in rear behind the cab. When it would fill with water we could take a drain tube down in back and let some water out.
At the end of the day we had to dump that stinking mess. And believe me it was stinking since those catch basins had a lot of organic matter and mud and fluids from cars and trucks in them.
We called it the "shit wagon" since that is what it smelled like.
One time with the old Vactor (it had cab over) we had the tube in the sewer under Wolf and Golf. The Vactor jumped into reverse. My partner hit the clamp on the tube and disconnected it. I ran around the driver side and mounted it on the run and stopped it before it hit the back up truck.
That was some quick action. The guy that was my partner is dead now. He drank himself to death. His tongue swelled up in his mouth and he choked. :-/

I am lucky to remember any of that since the meningitis wiped out so much memory.
We would do snow plowing in winter. One time the got caught with their pants down on an April 15 snow storm. They were scrambling to spreaders and plows on trucks.
They gave me a truck with a load of salt and a plow. The handed me a shovel and said, "Throw it where you need it." Work that banjo.
And I had to go out on Willow Rd. which was a main drag and do it.
Between the Tri-State Toll Road and Sanders where it turned into Palatine Road Express, there was an elevated curve. I got on the right side which was the high side. I got out of the cab and climbed up on the load of salt and waved traffic from behind and was throwing shovels full of salt off the back. I would pull up maybe 30 or 50 feet and do it again.
We had to do what was necessary to keep traffic moving. ;)

It was their foul up. They had old tractors chained up in the body of a couple of 6 ton trucks. They put plows on the front of them.
They were going down Forestway Drive along the lagoons which was Forest Preserve property. Some guy jumped out of a car and took a picture of the trucks snow plowing with the old tractors chained up in the dump bodies. They had planned on taking the tractors in to be recycled for the steel. That would give them a credit in the budget.
I guess it was unusual to see such a site as that to say the least. ;)

We were working Garth Brooks in Iowa City, Iowa. I was standing on front corner of Stage left doing my thing.
People had brought up gifts for Garth and we would put them on corner of stage.
He came over to pick them up. That is when the photographer for Des Moines Register took the picture. I made Page One of Section Two.
I opened the door of the hotel room the morning of the 2nd show to get some breakfast. The door across the hall was open. This girl was in there. When she saw me she started pointing and shouting, "IT'S YOU! IT'S YOU!"
She came running out into the hall still shouting and pointing at the newspaper, "IT'S YOU! CAN I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH?"
So I signed the paper and went downstairs and cleaned out the paper machine.
Her boyfriend wanted to come down to the corner of the stage and take a picture. I saw him standing by the gate and waved him down. I looked away. When I looked back the cop was hustling him up the stairs. He cane down the stairs and almost knocked the cop flat. The cop threw him out. Someone let him back in.
I told him, "Listen. I said you could come down and take a picture. I didn't say you could be drunk."
When we got back to Chicago, I handed a copy of the newspaper to one of my Supervisors. He held it up and Danny, the boss, said, "Tex this is neat. I'm going to cut it out and hang it in the office."
Any copies of that newspaper were in the dresser drawers of my furniture when it disappeared from the house in Golden City. :-/

"Some qualified Republican who's willing to lose" (from Fiorello) We had a Brooklyn friend who ran for judge on the Republican line every so often for the same reason.
Only 10% of registered voters in NYC are Republican. But not many Democrat voters register either. I remember in 2016 some sweet young thing stopped me in the street in front of my apartment asked if I were a registered Democrat and would be willing to sign a petition to get someone on the ballot.
Told her I could not but trying to cheer her up (she looked mighty down), I told her that most of the people on the island voted Democrat so she should have no trouble getting signatures. She said she knew that, but while they voted Democrat, they weren't registered as such.
