The minimum wage in 1962 was $1.25 an hour payable in 5 silver quarters. $1.25 of face value silver coins weighed one ounce. It was 90% silver, 10% copper. You can buy an ounce of silver for $17.15 in 2020 dollars. Why have prices gone up and wages down? Because politicians have flooded the country with 145 million immigrants and their children. We ought not to allow immigrants into the country if wages in real terms are declining while rents skyrocket in impacted areas. Might I point out that the population of Mexico was 28 million in 1950. Today it is 132 million and there are 34 million Mexican-Americans.
