When I was a kid both SF and Oakland had Republican mayors. I went to a high school that had a rival school. We both competed for academic excellence. Now. I do not think the schools even protect white kids from violence let alone threats of violence.

So what is happening in the big city near you?

I remember a Perry Mason book in which the lead character says of Los Angeles, a city of 1.2 million people, "Think what it must feel like to be a homicide detective in Los Angeles. There has never been a period of 34 days without a murder. Imagine waking up one morning on the 34th day without a murder knowing as a detective there will be a murder somewhere in the city before the end of the day."

34 days without a murder would be phenomenal today. 34 hours would be a great improvement.

Los Angeles city population 1930 1.2 million.
