You must necessarily bring the history of the area up whenever discussing Palestine, Turkey and Israel.

First, the Balfour Declaration of 1917 was written by Sir Arthur Balfour and it was presented to the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland. That paper promised the Joos a national homeland in Palestine which at that time was an Ottoman area.

During WW II, Hitler wanted to send the Joos to Madagascar, a lush tropical island off the east coast of Africa. But the Joos did not want to hear this. They wanted to go to Palestine.

This then brought about the Haavara Agreement which was an agreement to send Joos to Palestine.
