That is astounding. Why do they let the great Ricky speak -- are they that desperate for viewers anymore? He's so uncensored I'm surprised they're not running for the exits! Fake smiles, anxious laffter and many grimaces show they really don't want him. It's really an important document in film history. Who's that surly old hymie with Glenn Close?

Guess she doesn't realize such vulgarity is a perfect example, as she is herself for that matter....... One summer circa 1980 I was asked to accompany a teenage production of Marlo Thomas' Free to Be...You and Me. The alcoholic, slightly pompous director had been Ms Streep's high school theater guru. I didn't know what this theater piece was about, suspected the worst, and was right.
Playing for rehearsals I'm thinking WHY are we doing this, WHAT will these kids' naive suburban parents make of it, do these normal healthy young people REALLY not notice its gliberal wackiness?

Back when la Streep was in the running for her first Oscar, I'm thinking "She's from New Jersey. Will she pull off the classy, self- possessed acceptance speech -- or just be New Jersey?"
