Diamonds are overpriced as is, so I suspect even at 1/3rd of the price, they'd still make a killing.

Real gems are emeralds and rubies. Far more rare, but I guess they'll be able to fake those in a lab as well, at some point.

I read of a man in the 1950s who claimed to make emeralds in a lab. He made the papers.
