On 7 May 2021, US Air Force Chief of Staff General Charles Q. Brown was called to testify before the House Defense Appropriations Sub-Committee.
The four-star general has been tapped to succeed General Mark Milley as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Brown made clear that the US Air Force has gradually lost its technological edge, pointing out in particular that the ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems have not been modernized for over 20 years.
He observed that China and Russia have studied the US wars since 9/11 and have concluded that the role of citizens is as important as that of the military.
More importantly, he indicated that in the event of a great war today, the United States would not be sure of winning it.

Korea was a draw. That was the first U.N. war since the Soviets missed the Security Council meeting.
U.S. sent the bulk of troops and equipment. When Mac Arthur invaded at Inchon, China sent 300,000 troops across the border. They were just coming off their Revolution and were battle hardened.
The Marines were encircled at the Chosin Reservoir (Frozen Chosin) they beat a hasty retreat thru the mountains to the east and had to carry out the dead and wounded. Chinese snipers were taking pot shots at them along that route, but they got thru where they were evacuated by the Navy.
Chesty Puller proved his worth in that action. ;)

The German military smelled a rat and sent two officers to London in March of 1939 to offer to arrest Hitler and stop the war. His Majesty's Jewish government refused the offer. And so we killed 58 million people after the other side surrendered. The Japanese Emperor had tried to surrender in in 1936 but was refused by van Rosenfeld.
