Not too sure about holding currencies. Precious metals are good if you can afford them.

At this time the FED is buying up all the short term notes that China and Brazil are selling into the secondary markets. How long can they keep that up? Some say to infinity. The U.S. has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy twice to my knowledge. Once in 1933 when FDR abrogated the gold standard. (Britain did same thing in 1931.)

In 2006, Congressman James Traficant of Ohio got up to address the House. His speech began thus,

"Gentlemen, We are here today in Chapter 11. We are the receivers in the largest bankruptcy in the history of the world."

You need some cash to do business. I like US 90% silver coins from 1964 and before. They cannot be faked. Everyone knows what they are so they will be easy to sell or to barter with. All currencies will fail.
