It'd be easier to rake the lock. I learned how to rake locks on Master padlocks with homemade tools. I got lucky today at Menards. I need to re-lock my house. I found two sets of KwikSet locks and dead bolts (4 sets total) by sorting through all they had and finding several pairs of keyed alike sets. God love KwikSet, they always send out pairs of a key code (listed on the package). One of the two pairs I found had some really wicked bidding on the keys (a lot of high cut and low cuts on the keys). They almost look like a challenge lock. They'll be impossible to rake, and a really difficult single pin pick. The bidding is very severe to the point that they might be unreliable in bad conditions, freezing, etc. I very seldom use the locks on my house, relying on my garage door openers (I've tuned them up a bit).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know KwikSets are a shit lock, but these are the best I'm gonna get without rekeying them myself. My favorite lockshop has vanished like a fart in the wind, thanks to covi. I'm not too worried about picking, my jambs are fortified, so spreading attacks are going to take a lot of work and time. The last time I was involved in a situation like that, somebody got shot in the face, went to prison, and still stuck my homeowner's insurance for $250,000.

If you have a power drill, you can also just drill a 1/4 inch hole right where the notched portion of the shank is when locked. With the Master lock, it took only about 30 seconds of slow drilling and the thing just popped open. So much for those high powered rifle commercials Master used to put on TV, blowing a hole through the center of the lock. Proper aim would be a bit higher and to the left.

I bought an SUV with a spare hanging off the back and had to remove a pad lock the prior owner put on it (along with 2 different locking lug nuts ... I guess the guy was expecting to drive it through Chicago).

Removing the Master lock was the easiest of the 3, by far. But the video tip is a good one.

At best, most locks, just keep honest folks honest. The executrix of my estate has gone insane, thanks to covi shots. She can't be reasoned with or bargained with. It's easier to spend a couple hundred bux and make the problem melt away with no confrontation.

You don't know me from Adam, I'm a pretty nice guy right up to the point that I'm not. This new covi insanity is a new one in my book. I'm tryin' to keep a cool tool on the stool if you know what I mean.
