Suspect in bloody ambush has eight prior arrests

A horrifying attack upon an unsuspecting man by a hatchet-wielding suspect at a Chase bank in New York City was captured in surveillance footage.

The incident unfolded at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening inside an ATM in lower Manhattan, the New York Post reports.

A 51-year-old man was standing at a cash machine when a black male suspect in a face mask entered the vestibule and pulled a small ax from a bag.

The suspect can be seen chopping the victim in the back of the leg, prompting the injured man to begin fighting for his life amid a flurry of vicious chops.

Eventually the bloodied victim is knocked to the ground before sustaining additional strikes from the blade-wielding suspect.

The victim disappears from view and the suspect proceeds to smash the display screens of multiple cash machines before fleeing.

The wounded man was reportedly rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remained in stable condition.

Police later arrested 37-year-old Aaron Garcia of Yonkers in connection with the attack.

Garcia has at least eight prior arrests, sources told CBS New York.

“The 37-year-old man was smashing car windows near 19th Street and Seventh Avenue when officers in a 10th Precinct patrol car spotted him,” sources told the Post.

Garcia was also reportedly taken to Bellevue Hospital for an evaluation but had not been charged as of Tuesday night.
