Jim, we're a country of retards now. When Sling Blade was leaving after cutting my grass, we talked about rear view mirrors. In two years, you won't see them. How big is the three or more cams in a cell phone? If I had that tech 40 years ago, we wouldn't be here.

The local taxi where I live has a video camera so the driver only has to look at the dash.

When I was in driver education in High School they were practicing parallel parking. One girl cut the wheels and looked over her shoulder. She hit the gas and crashed the car. She forgot to put the car in reverse. They flunked her over that one.

When I drove big trucks, one time I pulled into a truck stop. All of the regular parking slots were taken. There was one spot open along the property line. But I had to do parallel parking in a tractor trailer. That was a real experience. There is a knack to doing that with a 53 foot trailer. ;)

I used to work for Cummins Engine Company in Research & Engineering. They let me drive a truck once. Exactly once. On a test track, not on a road.

Later, working at another automotive company, I drove a big rig several times in the parking lot and on the test tracks. But never on the road. On the road I rode shotgun tending to the instrumentation.

I've worked with big rigs a lot -- drivetrain, braking, suspension & steering, etc. -- but was never a driver.
