Take it with a grain of salt. If that was true that people could take merchandise without any risk of arrest. Lowe's and other stores would close. Otherwise, they would go broke in a hurry.

Where I live the thieves stripped the brass drains for the copper content from the sink in the apartment that was converted to a laundry room. Now there is an electronic lock on the door. The drain pipes were replaced with plastic pipe. :-/

If just one sink, even if there was no risk of being caught and there would be, the time and labor involved would be greater than the few dollars they would get for the pipe In addition to the labor of removing the pipe, there is the drive across town to a dealer and back. I find it difficult to fathom the stupidity of some people.

I have no idea who stole the brass drains. But it is entirely likely they are doing this sort of thing wherever and whenever they find the opportunity. ;)
