Amid Staff Shortages, Efforts To Defund Police

... officials saying that the system has become "unmanageable" and is "broken"...

I remember the old crime movies. The crew breaks into a jewelry store, the alarm goes off and the crew has 60 seconds to clear out. Nowadays, they can take their time. They could even sweep up the glass and leave a sign: "We swept up the glass so the police don't cut themselves. Have a nice day."

911 turned what was good into something bad. In the 70s I called the police twice and they were quickly there. About the same time, I called the fire department and they quickly responded. Less than 5 minutes all three times. Call 911 and it takes longer for them to answer than it used to take for the police or fire department to arrive when you could call them directly. And, even after they answer, any response takes a long time.
