Charged in Over 70 Thefts

Police in San Jose, California, have arrested three men suspected of robbing and attacking dozens of Asian women in the Bay Area.

The “prolific robbery crew” was the focus of a year-long investigation into more than 70 thefts, some brutally violent, the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) revealed last week.

Anthony Michael Robinson, 24, and Derje Damond Blanks, 23, were arrested together on September 8 in San Jose.

Cameron Alonzo Moody, 27, was apprehended on September 16 in Union City.

“On September 8th, Suspects Robinson and Blanks were located and arrested in San Jose,” SJPD explained in a press release. “During apprehension efforts, suspect Robinson fled in a vehicle, ran a red light, and collided with another vehicle – injuring a two-year-old child and her father. Robinson and Blanks were booked in Santa Clara County Jail for over 70 counts of felony robbery.”

Two loaded firearms were recovered at the scene of Moody’s apprehension. He also faces a multitude of felony robbery charges.

The suspects reportedly worked together to carry out many robberies across the Bay Area.

Their alleged targeting of Asian females prompted the Santa Clara County District Attorney to pursue hate crime enhancements for their charges.

“Many of these victims were also injured during these robberies, this wasn’t just a pickpocket ‘I’m gonna grab your purse,’” SJPD Sgt. Christian Camarillo told local media. “Some of these were violent confrontations.”
