Harry Truman had a sign on his desk that said, "THE BUCK STOPS HERE".

That says enough for me and I'm a Republican.

John J. Hoellen was the lone Republican in the Chicago City Council. He was a thorn in the side of the Democrats who ran the city the way they pleased.

After Harold Washington was elected the first black Mayor of Chicago, Vito Marzullo got up in the City Council and said, "We don't need no Washington."

In other words things would still work the way they always had, with or without Washington. ;)
