At least I admit to being a payroller for Illinois State Highways. I started out on Probation and the Lead, Lead Worker told me they hadn't had a probation there in three years.

The State would donate to The United Way and then come back to the employees to recoup the donations.

One year three of us refused to allow payroll deductions for that. As punishment we were dropped off a mile apart to pick litter. The black guy took a tumble down the embankment. I recall the ambulance and squad car making U-turn at end of G-wall to go and pick him up.

After that the orders were we were not supposed to work without immediate supervision. ;)
