On June 24th, 73-year old James Lambert, Jr. decided to take an early morning walk around his North Philadelphia Neighborhood. It was a route that he had regularly walked for the last 60 years of his life. When James got to 21st and Cecil B. Moore, he was followed and taunted by a group of seven juveniles as he crossed the street. James attempted to walk away, but they followed him and knocked him to the ground with a 7lb traffic cone. The teens began to brutally beat the helpless man, striking him numerous times in the head with the cone. At one point he tried to get up to run away but they continued their assault. Surveillance video captured the teens smiling and laughing as they pummeled the elderly man. James’ head injury was too severe and he died the following day.

For nearly three weeks, his killers remained on the loose until video of the assault was released to the media on Friday. As of today, a 14-year old boy has been arrested and charged with his murder. It’s expected that the remaining juvenile suspects will soon be taken into custody.

James Lambert was known by his friends and family as “Simmie” and was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia. Even in his 70’s, he took a great amount of pride in his appearance. His niece said James still dressed with style each and every day. He was at his 85-year old sister’s house for dinner just hours before the violent attack, and would regularly visit his family members who all still live in the area.

Traffic cones are innocent victims, the GOP has pushed traffic cone violence to the forefront recently. The youngest killer was 10 years old! Where is your compassion for 10 year old killers, randge?
